There is no company that takes care of their interns more than UD.

    Sales Intern (Current Employee)
    Richmond, VA

    ProsExtensive training
    Great pay
    Real world experience
    Awesome company feedback and communication
    Management experience
    Opportunities for advancement
    Excellent career partners

ConsSome cons that I found while working with University Directories were that since it was a sales job you do have to do quite a bit of driving. I spent 8 hours a day driving around my city making cold calls and I really burned through some gas, however since the pay was so great it wasn't to bad.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the motivation! I wouldn't have succeeded this summer if it wasn't for the great management I had behind me.

    Very challenging but rewarding experience

    Sales Representative (Current Employee)
    Chapel Hill, NC

ProsGreat on resume and sales skills will take you far in life

ConsThe hours are long and lack of sales could be very discouraging

Advice to Senior ManagementDefinitely attitude. It determines everything. Try not to focus too much on the money for you will not get much but focus more on the actual experience and communication skills. Overall great experience.

    Work you to death...

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

ProsI got to make my own schedule as a sales associate, so that was nice. They also match you with a team that compliments your personality.

ConsThey literally work you to death. They wanted me out and selling any time the sun was up, and sometimes when it was down. And cold calling is not fun, but the company won't embrace any other selling methods.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop thinking of sales as a numbers game... instead of cold calling, there are other more targeted sales methods that might be more profitable.

Very hard to stay motivated when hearing "no" all day.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Pros-All of the employees work very hard to obtain goals and deliver the best possible results
-Great work experience, especially for young college grads who are trying to figure out which career path they want to take

    Cons-Somewhat low pay
-Sometimes there are minor miscommunications regarding specific work objectives, which can lead to a lack of understanding as to what needs to be accomplished

    Horrible Experience-Even for Sales

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsYou get the opportunity to see a lot of businesses in your college community.
If you know you want a career in sales, then this would probably be a good option for a summer internship.
I realized what I don't want to do for a career.

ConsThis was the worst job I have ever had. The training did not prepare me whatsoever for the internship, and all they do is go on and on about how this is going to be the best summer job ever. The pay is horrible. I spent more on gas than what I made each week. The job description itself is fairly vague, and I had no idea of what I was actually doing until the first day of work. And the approach to selling is all wrong. They tell you to question the business owner and find out their needs, but they tell you to say the same thing to each owner, regardless of their specified needs. Also, the prices are ridiculously high for reaching such a narrow market. Most business owners will realize that this is a horrible way to actually reach the students and will (wisely) realize that this would be an utter waste of their money. I felt so sleazy the entire time I was trying to sell.

Advice to Senior ManagementTell your interns what they will actually be doing, and set realistic goals. Selling is based on catering to the customer, not throwing them a memorized pitch that doesn't even relate to the business' needs.

    Good Training, terrible job

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Prosgreat sales training program
    gives you good experience

Consthe job description is very vague and is listed as "marketing internship" which is misleading because its sales
all cold calls- they hire college students desperate for experience to visit basically every business in the area to try to sell advertisements
55+ hour weeks- the job basically becomes your life
they expect too much out of student first-time sales reps
they advertise the networking opportunities as one of their biggest draws but the corporate partners only will talk with top 100 sales reps

Advice to Senior Managementceo and upper management were good

My internship with University Directories increased my work ethic. It was challenging and rewarding.

    Outside Sales Representative (Current Employee)

ProsThe week-long training makes you feel completely confident that you have the tools to do a good job out in the field. It was hard work but just as fun as it was challenging.
You learn that if you push yourself you can reap the benefits of your success in the end, and that if you dont push yourself, it will show in the outcome of your work.
Your co-workers are positive upbeat hard-working people just like you and thats the reason you were hired.
Fun talking to many different people everyday

    ConsLong days and hard work
the beginning is rough, but everyone gets through it
A little hard to stay organized at first until you get the hang out
more organizational tools would be beneficial

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management is unbelievable. Most of them are still so young, yet so proffessional and good at what they do. They carry out management with positive reinforcement and proffessionalism. Most of them know whats its like to be in the interns shoes, and they still hold back and listen to complaints with a postive response.
