    Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed the sense of community at this company. Everyone is passionate about what they do and strive to be the best in the industry. There's a passion that everyone shares to educate and ensure that their students receive the best education and environment that can be provided.

    Cons

More responsibilities can be distributed to supporting staff.

I worked at Aspire Public Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Mix of bright, passionate, intelligent people; solid compensation (particularly for cost of living in Oakland); excellent work/life balance

    Cons

Disconnect between the Home Office and the rest of the schools (and possibly in between schools); vertical mobility is based on restructuring of teams or when others leave Aspire (often depends on luck as well as identifying opportunities on your own)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More diversity on the board and senior leadership team; involve more active educators in the process

I worked at Aspire Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Great mission, passionate staff and long-ish hours, but not unreasonable. Fair compensation.

    Cons

Didn't feel fully utilized, was a bit bored some of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nurture all employees -- it is cheaper to nurture existing employees than to train new ones. Make sure you select the right employees, nurture them appropriately and help them to remain challenged.

I have been working at Aspire Public Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Aspire has a great mission and staff. The systems, infrastructure, and culture around making data-driven decisions at all levels of the organization are years ahead of most other school districts. The commitment to serve students by building strong teachers is powerful. Overall, the organization runs very efficiently.

    Cons

The organization has very high expectations which can require large time input. The focus on test scores is understandable given they are a charter, but is more narrowly focused on math and english than I would like.

I have been working at Aspire Public Schools

    Pros

Aspire is among the most collaborative educational environments one could hope to work. They support and provide professional development and have high expectations for teacher and student performance.

    Cons

The human resources and information technology departments have, at least in my case, proved themselves in need of improved communications, more detail oriented work habits and less mistake-prone staffing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Teachers and students are obviously the meat and potatoes of a charter school organization but I don't think the service provided by administrative departments should suffer as a result.
