    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prosexcellent products, a big pharma positive spin, known brand name, key player in pharma business, nice people environment

Conswork-life balance is several times suboptimal, lack of innovation and vision sometimes even in senior management roles luckily there are some exceptions.

blue chip company fails to deliver - no longer a great place to work

Production Manager (Current Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

Prosrelative employment security , money is being invested in new production buildings,
Potentially very good career prospects if you are of graduate caliber.
very good gym and social section.
the company has a very good reputation especially within the Macclesfield area as it is a major employer for the area.

ConsHigh pressure in the manufacturing departments to hit targets, the company let far to many people leave on voluntary redundancy and have been paying the price for it.
No real career prospects are available for the shop floor operators to progress - no succession planning is in place.
poor reward system currently being used where any bonus or salary increase is approved by your manager who if you have a poor relationship with them have the final say in your reward so you will never receive a fare reward package.

Advice to Senior Managementstart acting like managers and treat people as individuals that you have actually taken some time to get to know, stop following the company print literally on everything - THEY ARE GUIDELINES - try doing what your title says and MANAGE.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Great People work here

Scientist (Current Employee) Macclesfield, England (UK)

ProsMet some of the best and brightest people here. The company has a great loyal work force despite the constant change

ConsA growing feeling that commitment to the Company is 'old fashioned. Petty cost cutting has made it difficult to attend conferences, seminars etc to keep on top of the latest developments. Allowing Scientists to innovate and try ideas would work in any location

Advice to Senior ManagementStop a blanket approach to re-organising the Company and being prepared to let the best go. Sort the IT out!

    Great People, bad management

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsPeople on the whole are friendly and approachable.
Work / Life balance is good with opportunity to move within the company.
    Salary and benefits are good.

Cons'Re-org' has become a byword for the company that has re-structured far too often in recent years.
Senior management do not treat everyone equally treating support staff - especially PAs as expendable and therefore not worth bothering to keep happy.
IT systems and services both internal and external 'helpdesk' are slow, incompetent and unwilling to help if they can avoid it. Helpdesk in India has lead to many misunderstandings and time wasted.
HR non-existent with new starters and slow verging on impossible to work with to sort anything. A collective groan goes up whenever HR has to be consulted as finding an answer or sorting a problem quickly or even within a week is virtually impossible.
Recent re structure of moving London office to Luton and Cambridge in three months has left many dejected at the lack of consultation or understanding for staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementBring back IT in house.
Respect PAs - they go all the things you need so you can do your jobs. Treat them as equals, not just pay lip service, they aren't stupid and know the difference.
Enlarge HR department to encompass New Starter inductions, an organised entry and exit system and easy to contact help for all staff issues.
Stop re-organizing the company every six months. It has a negative impression on staff, investors, stock market and public.

    Uneasy times

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) London, England (UK)

ProsFlexible working, salaries are good, if working in the right areas there's an excellent team dynamic. People are amazingly friendly despite all that's going on.

ConsA company amongst the midst of massive changes worldwide. Feathers are ruffled, people are unhappy. The company needs to look at employees who do a fair bulk of the hard work and learn how to value them.

Little to no value on PA's, despite the hours and work they have done, and continue to do despite being told there is no future for them at the company as they won't relocate them.

Could benefit with a clear out of the dead wood now and not wait for natural waste to occur.

They also need to make up their minds about the relocation, which is now accelerated to next summer, not summer 2015/2016, and have a little respect towards those they know they don't want to take.

Advice to Senior ManagementRespect those who are working hard for you... And show it

    In flux

Researcher (Current Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsSome good science is being done. Some departments do well.

ConsFuture direction is shareholder-driven. Wasting money on a prestigious move to Cambridge, UK that will presumably save the future of AZ. Some departments have been subject to change year on year - no wonder they do badly.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe money spent on moving to Cambridge would be better spent on progressing what is good than wanton disruption of what is supposedly bad.

Great people but you must leave science and move into management if you want to succeed.

Senior Scientist (Current Employee) Manchester, England (UK)

ProsGreat people to work with. The food served in the canteen is great. Everyone is generally very friendly. Only on rare occasions do you have to work beyond 40 hours a week.

ConsThere are few opportunities to stay in science if you want to get ahead. Emphasis is placed on going to meetings, and more importantly documenting that you have been going to meetings. Scientists play second fiddle to management and pay rises for the scientists are very low.

Advice to Senior ManagementCut back on the endless numbers of managers with random job titles and start doing the science again.

    Good People Bad overall Management

Research Scientist (Former Employee) Macclesfield, England (UK)

ProsGreat place to work. Relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic site and facilities at Alderley Park.

Conslarge number of people who have only ever worked for AZ/Zeneca/ICI. No idea of outside world.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake the right decisions in the clinic. Invest more in scientists and getting young hungry people in rather than relying on an aging non engaged workforce.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
