    Pros

    Good money while it lasted.

    Cons

Their marketing operation needs to become professional.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put a professional marketing operation in place. Set the engineering rates competitively.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Hard working, ethical, creative and talented technical staff. Great support staff

    Cons

In past 8 years or so, at least one reorganization every two years. Highest levels of management do not listen to staff on reorgs. They give the impression of such, but dissenting opinions not given much weight. Current alignment has little chance of being successful for some groups, while others will be fine. But why the constant need to rearrange corporate structure?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Resign. Your technical and support staff are leaving in droves, just as the national economy is picking up steam.

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good geographic coverage and relatively broad (but shrinking) client base.

    Cons

Inexperienced and uninspiring upper management; confusing and inefficient organization; corporate focus is entirely on short term financial performance with little regard for client service, quality, or employee loyalty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The North American CEO has lost control of this company, ceding way too much power to cronies, driving out many of the top employees. The initial identification of problems was insightful, but the radical reorganization created enormous internal churn and distraction at a time when the firm should have been focused on retaining its best clients and employees. The resulting fallout will be very damaging to the competitiveness of the firm.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    co workers, client interface opportunities

    Cons

lack of continuity in management, lack of execution of strategy, lack of cohesive vision, very inconsistent personnel management, complete lack of performance based incentives at a mid manager/career level, lack of operational guidelines for such simple things as bid generation and scope review, absolutely no opportunities for cross discipline or other types of training, many senior staff just looking for a good exit opportunity, many managers are so frightened for their security that they are not making decisions for sustainable success, but simply for short term survival

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very structured and organised firm (but was not for me). There was an early emphasis on induction and training but this was not followed through into the promised opportunities.

    Cons

Focus on utilisation and profit is expected in this environment but Atkins was relentless in this regard, measuring return on staff as a metric in a machine-like way

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more people-centric but that does not just mean hire more HR people.

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1. Reputable firm to work for.
    2. Modern office facilities.
    3. Contact with large scale projects.

    Cons

    1. Not the best workplace atmosphere.
    2. Teamwork non existent.
    3. Challenging projects are few and far apart.
    4. Salaries below industry average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Team spirit within business units is very poor, difficult to deliver any outstanding projects if staff isn't fully engaged. Cooperation with other business units is scarce, no advantage is taken of the company's size and global reach.
New CEO seems to be on a good path to change the current state of things, but mid-management need to buy in.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Relaxed environment, flexible leaves, extraordinary pay for CAD technicians, no work for Managers & Team leaders(Senior staff), no need to worry about lay off, free vegetable lunch, lunch break for an hour.

    Cons

HR's from below average B-Schools and they think they are the top management (Please not that only the HR Director and HR head are from elite B-Schools), Engineers are under paid, Salary discrepancy between engineers in the same grade/level, absolutely no technical work or projects, UK dependent for projects, qualified engineers asked to do data entry related work, hardworking staff are not rewarded whereas staff who 'kiss up' have better prospects of promotions & salary hikes, Indian management not capable of taking any responsibility relating to projects and staff remuneration, there is no dispute management, staff harassment's are not handled & sorted, no appreciation for smart work but for staff who stays late and does nothing at the end of the day, Senior level staff lack technical capabilities, sympathy bonus & hikes for married staff(apparently married people are the only ones with actual expenditure), religion biased.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please be self dependent and it is important to be competitive in the Indian market during project bids, handle staff related issues well, reward staff who actually work hard, increase technical capability in the teams through training's and encourage good projects, recruit technically capable senior staff specific to the particular discipline, reduce dependency on the UK projects.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The single major benefit of working for Atkins is the opportunity to work on prestige projects in the UK and overseas (when internal politics does not get in the way).

    Cons

Poor management. Within business unit there is a bad and counter-intuitive dynamic between the operations management team and the business management team. This results in the business management team spending more of their time covering their own backs than actually growing the business. This has become increasingly obvious as the market place has recovered and our competitors shoot ahead. Management are far too insular!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Internal politics is destroying the business. There are too many individuals who are over paid reducing overall competitiveness while those doing the work are treated and rewarded poorly. Staff are de-motivated, leaving or making plans to do so. STOP NAVAL GAZING!

I have been working at Atkins full-time for less than a year

    Pros

the best reason to work here are
    no knowledge required
    no restriction on timing
    good atmosphere
    good people to work with
    simple policies on leave

    Cons

    Clever policies to trap you
    no future forecast of work
you can be fired any time
    less salary
salary contain so many variable component
quality of work is not good

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

the policy of getting best people at cheapest rate is not possible by the way, so you should not mix these two things either get cheaper people or the best people.
forecast the work with some more efficiency.
Improve your policies regarding salary. you can not be clever with your own employee. they understand the purpose of every policy you make.
Never recruit people from IITs and NITs, You simply can not afford them.
