    Pros

Fairly good job security - as long as Atkins has work for you.
Good work/life balance as most of the work is routine.

    Cons

You will be let go within a week or two if Atkins cannot find someone to pay them to pay you.
Very little opportunity for career advancement. Most positions are as contractor/consultant for firms that Atkins has a contract with. Once you are in one of these positions, it is very difficult to do something different.
For a firm that relies heavily on the talents of their employees, there is surprisingly little invested in educating these employees. The attitude is that employees need to come prepared to be billable and can access online educational tools if they are low/no cost.

Good place for graduates to work at. You get good experience working in may different projects. Good benefits.

    Cons

Very monotonous environment, it is encouraged to work as a team, but there's no such thing, everyone pretty much keeps to themselves.

    Pros

Friendly, laid-back atmosphere, flexible work schedule

    Cons

Because of organization changes, people are laid off unexpectedly, The ones who are left are expected to pick up the extra work without being compensated. Expected to work overtime without compensation if you're a salaried employee, not enough work/life balance, pay is below average.

    Advice to Management

    Value current employees

    Pros

This is a well known and established company. It has many of the perks of a large company. They really encourage involvement in professional organizations. The people in my group were amazing and patient. I couldn't have asked for better mentors.

    Cons

Since the buy out in 2010, the employees don't seem to be as valued as higher ups claim. The benefits of being employee owned are gone. A bit before I was let go, there was a cut of around 100 of the most seasoned and valuable employees in the company to make the numbers better. They seemed to cut their feet out from under them.

    Advice to Management

Don't freak out every quarter if the numbers aren't perfect. Wait it out a little longer. Consulting isn't pretty month to month.
