I worked at Atkins as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good team work. Good environment. flexible work time. I like the idea of group meeting though it was not necessary always.

    Cons

Not good paid. no overtime work paying despite of the fact you have to stay late some times. some clerical problem that happened to me there.

I worked at Atkins full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Being part of a valued company that promotes growth in the engineering, architecture, and consulting (AEC) industries. Opportunity for advancement and involvement in the community. Great administrative support team (HR, IT, Acctg/Finance, Legal)

    Cons

The environment is a bit shaky since Atkins acquired PBS&J in 2010-- There have been several executive leadership changes in the last 2 years. Divisions are highly accountable to meet budget numbers given the economic conditions. However, it still retains a strong presence in the AEC industry and provides achievable challenges.

I have been working at Atkins full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a job. Thing's are pretty good and i've had an opportunity to get a fairly broad range of experience.

    Cons

When things are slow, getting laid off is always on the mind. Although, thats the nature of civil engineer.

I can always use a raise!

I have been working at Atkins

    Pros

Small company feel when actually part of a worldwide corporation.
Flexible work hours and strong work/life balance.
    Receive feedback on your work.
    Great salary and good benefits.

    Cons

Houston is a pretty ugly city. Otherwise no complaints really. There were a few layoffs in the past year like most places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to encourage young staff to develop.

I have been working at Atkins full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very friendly and social working environment with technically excellent staff producing high quality work. Strong dedication to personal development and good opportunities to experience a variety of projects.

    Cons

Many of the opportunities involve being seconded into the clients organisation which does provide good experience but it is not how I wanted to work as a consultant. More work being delivered as an Atkins project team would be preferred.

I have been working at Atkins as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

They give people at the beginning of their careers good opportunities in order to get experience. The people I work with are friendly and helpful. The pay is decent.

    Cons

Policies are often hard to find and quite vague once you have found them - they need to do a better job of making things clearer and putting everything in one place. They could do more to welcome you to the company when you first start - tours, inductions etc.

I have been working at Atkins full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Offices are generally nice. You are well looked after and the benefits are good.
I think it is a good place for graduates, good projects and lots of chances to work abroad.
Epsom is nice and has plenty of shops and places to get lunch. Train is convenient and quick.
    Flexible working hours

    Cons

Hard to move upwards when you are in your 30s.
    Pay goes up slowly
Too many managers directors who seem to do very little and act like an overhead and look after one another.
Lack of efficient line management - easy to people to get away with doing nothing - possibly a Pro for some people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make they book to fee earning time or show what work they are bring in.
Have a proper tool to catch good driven staff and promote them. You loss a lot of good people.
