I have been working at Atmel full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work load is great, able to work from home. Time management is second nature, so this works great for me.

    Cons

Management is difficult to understand. We spend way too much time dealing with the bonus plan which is tied to performance review, which requires reviewing huge spreadsheets looking for completed sales tied to sales efforts. I'm not a salesman, I'm an engineer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the bonus plan so that we don't need to data mine huge spreadsheets every quarter by fixing the backend systems.

I worked at Atmel full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

While still subject to the typical semi-conductor cycles, Atmel has fixed many of its structural problems (selling businesses, excess foundries, etc) to enable it to be quite profitable when in the up-cycles. It's through most of the "turn around" pain and now building for the future.

    Cons

All semi-conductor companies seem to suffer severe business cycles and Atmel is no exception. High Tech is a demanding place to work (but always intellectually interesting).

The touch marketplace is currently mostly associated with phone handsets and is therefore extremely volatile.

Thank you. That's a great suggestion. We have started a rotational program within a few functions and will continue to promote this great learning opportunity to other functions and business units.

I worked at Atmel full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Friendly place to work. Balance work/life environment, Small company environment where red tape are minimum and can get things done quickly and effectively. Cost of operation is low.

    Cons

Fab lite and business cycles cause a lot of employees to look for jobs elsewhere. Top heavy management model may not be a right management model for the company

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Atmel full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There is more and more traction in employee engagement and management is trying hard to connect with employees through programs and activities. Have seen good changes with Sr. management being more open and more communications happening. This company has potential, and should be able to grasp it.

    Cons

Investments need to be made in infratsructure and process. Yes, it is hard work, and long hours, but it is an environment with hardly any politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grasp the opportunity. Keep up the work and keep communicating to and with employees. It might be good to give employees more opportunities to give feedback (surveys, suggestion boxes)

I have been working at Atmel

    Pros

Atmel has great benefits and the compressed shift schedules are great for working parents or someone trying to go to school. The salaries are pretty competitive for the colorado springs area. There are some opportunities for advancement. Atmel in colorado springs seems like it is trying to become a better and friendlier place to work, management is communicating better with employees and trying to include them in the process of making the fab more streamlined and profitable.

    Cons

Management is very inconsistant in dealing with employees. Some supervisors bully and threaten employees and most of us feel like there is no "safe" person to go to when there is a problem with someone in a management position. Atmel has recognized this and is trying to make changes so hopefully things will get better. I think the problems have gone on so long now that morale is very low and nobody trusts that atmel is going to do anything they say they will.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, everyone will come around when they realize things really are changing.
