Don't plan a career here, leaders have too many competing priorities and have no sense of cohesive strategic direction

    Manager (Former Employee)

ProsCompensation was good, although the final salary offer presented was reduced from the amount agreed upon. Significant amount of bonus was eliminated from pay plan for two years making the undercut a harder pill to swallow. Opportunities to learn additional competencies and skill sets, mentorship from others willing to invest the time.

ConsI boldly lied to and brushed off, given work well below my capabilities and set up for failure the last 6-8 months by "trusted" Supervisors/Management.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou can't take it with you and much forgiveness and penance is the only thing that will save your souls for the severed relationships and countless lives that were destroyed.

    Not a bad place

Floorplan Associate (Current Employee) Irving, TX

ProsA good supervisor = a good experience. I had a good supervisor, in talking with people from other departments they did not have the same experience.

ConsLower end of the pay scale.

Advice to Senior Managementnone really... it wasn't a bad job

They treat you well, lots of employee perks.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBagels every Friday and always bowls of fruit every morning. Free Starbucks coffee. Environment is respectful most people seem happy with their jobs. There isn't too much pressure, but you are expected to produce in a timely manner. The expectations are reasonable. Not too much politics considering it is a large corporation.

ConsCompensation is on the low end of the median and there is very little upward mobility. The only time anyone gets promoted is when a new department is opened and those generally get filled with outsiders. There is a layer of management missing (weird to say I know), but most people report to a director who has no time for managing. There are times when it would be good to have a manager to go to for guidance. However, its also nice that there doesn't seem to be much micromanaging.

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote a few people to managers and look for promising candidates from within for management positions.

    Review of Autonation

Accounting Manager (Current Employee) Lewisville, TX

ProsGreat people, always room for advancement

Consnever had anything bad to say about autonation until a new controller was hired and after a certain incident, i was the only one who was written up and eventually she fired me and brought in someone from her other store to replace me for less money.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere are always 2 sides to every story and maybe you should hear the losing persons side and get all the facts before you terminate a person who dedicated 7 yrs to the company and would have done anything for the company to let someone who had no dealership exp. come in and fire your long time employee.

    Good work environment.

Wholesale Parts (Former Employee) Margate, FL

ProsThey deliver what they promise regarding salaries and benefits

ConsThere is not a real career advancement policy, the people in management could have a better training regarding dealing with subordinates.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in a better training to your managers and supervisors, leading them to acquire good skills dealing with people

Friendly people, good management, I love my job so far.

Sales Associate (Current Employee) Spokane Valley, WA

ProsTraining is good, most coworkers have been helpful, in sales, its what you make of it. You definitly have to be a self motivator. Keep your head up, and don't let peoples negetive attitudes affect yours. There is opportunity to make money.

ConsThere are periods of downtime that tend to get boring. The paychecks won't be consistant.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo advice yet.

    Working for AutoNation

    (Current Employee) Memphis, TN

ProsMy favorite things is the family atmosphere. Autonation really tries to help you balance work and life. The pay is very competitive. They listen to my suggestions for new equipment, and Autonation is willing to spend money on new technology. The new technology especially in the collision and repair industry really helps us be more efficient and satisfy our customer needs. I am a manager and truly have some great associates that work for me.

ConsThe long hours sometimes are hard on my family. The waiting period for benefits is kind of long. I hope there will be changes to that as soon as the up coming year. Those are really the only 2 cons of working here. The long hours comes with the industry, and the waiting period I am not sure is industry wide or not.

Advice to Senior ManagementLose the long waiting period on Benefits, more variety of uniforms.

One of the Most Fun Jobs!

Sales Consultant (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsGood Leadership and Training. A supportive environment to work in. For being new to auto sales, the managers were very supportive and they're shared your excitement when you closed a sale. The managers all had 10+ years in the business. They were knowledgeable and had worked their way up to becoming a manager. Great Experience!

ConsToo long from hire date to when benefits start.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
