I have been working at AutoZone part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pros of this job for me have been pretty good. You get a nice discount on parts first off so a 120 dollar battery could cost you 90 instead. You meet and grow good connections with mechanics in your area which can save you lots of money and honestly if you slave hard enough you could move up in the company.

    Cons

The worst parts about working for Auto zone. There health coverage in my area is horrendous. It would take most of your paycheck if your a part timer which is 90 percent of my store. The job you actually do here is ridiculous. Whoever runs autozone and makes the decision on all the stuff we have to do must be a terrible person. What they make us do for our crap pay is ridiculous. Scrub toilets sweep and mop the whole store dump over 200lbs of trash weekly. On top of all that we have to reorganize a whole store when new products come and still try to take care of customers. It is nearly impossible. Now comes the worst part of my job personally, auto zone likes to offer free installation on battery bulbs wipers and free check engines. So in one day I kid you not I would have 20 to 30 batteries to install over 50 bulbs and well over 30 wiper blades to do daily. Now I didn't even mention check engines cause I lose count after the first 20 mins. The company obviously cares about one thing only money. So when you sign up for the job be aware that the company only pays you to do one job but your actually doing several. You would think a company that makes this much money could hire a cleaning crew and stop offering there employees as mechanics but no. The worst part is if your not comfortable with being a mechanic for autozone cause you thought you were going to be a sales associate cause thats the title oh well they dont care. But none the less i stuck it out made it to the age of 21 and now i will work commercial which means i wont be installing batteries bulbs or wipers or the dreaded check engine codes any more hallelujah.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You guys and gals as a company need to reevaluate what you make us autozoners offer cause most of it is unjust and shows that you don't care for the well being of the lowers that actually run the store while you guys sit down and have a meeting on how else you can screw us over. You need to get more departments for stores cause three people at night can't clean the whole store while installing and helping with customers it is ridiculously impossible but if you want to continue to wear down your poor employees at least pay them properly.

I worked at AutoZone part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a great place for those interested in getting familiar with auto parts and learning about cars in general if you have a vague idea already. It is great when you have a mechanical incline and are able to deal with costomers on a consistent basis with great service and advice and get the respect and confidence to be able to reach and establish a network of automotive benefits!

    Cons

If you expect to learn about cars and automotive or the mechanical field there than your in for a rude awakening! It is a tough environment where females are degraded to more of a cleaning job duty more often than not and if u are a female are less likely to get promoted. Being a female and being better able to learn and pick up will only get you to a position where u are more likely to have to prove yourself, and are not respected much for it by you're fellow male coworkers -and even older females! It is just retail at the end of the day and they will push you to make an extra buck and don't live up to their promises of putting costumers first and honesty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some integrity and be fair to both genders. Value the hard and honest worker and you will achieve your goal of more business with loyal costumers. Stop dumping antifreeze in the sink and having HR covering your tracks!

Manager always puts all their duties onto assistant, very low pay for position, short staffed, most middle company management don't care about employees only care about store making the numbers they are set to make.promises advancements but leave you hanging.long store hours and open most major holidays.management doesn't care about if they lose quality employees. And worst cheat you on medical insurance when you leave. They take out insurance premiums from last check but cancel your med insurance on your last day.i can go on and on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at AutoZone full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

As much over time as you can handle
When your coworkers actually show up to work they are generally pleasant people to work with.

    Cons

More over time then you can handle.
No staff at the busiest store in the district
None of the registers work right
    No communication

When you try talk to upper management about a problem and need advice they have no idea what to do.

When they send large planograms in the parts department they are done completely wrong and not even spaced correctly.

They cut the hours until you have no coverage and then make management cover all the extra shifts.

They hired us a driver who didn't have a license.

The store in the city need armed security because the computers loose warranties and the customers tend to become violent.

Racist commercial customers are defended by the district manager as though that's accepted behavior.

When you take an extra day off cause you're sick or have an emergency you are questioned about it like you are a criminal in an intarogation booth.

If you happen to know a customer and upper management finds out you might be questioned by loss prevention and maybe even fired as a thief even if you didn't do anything wrong.

Management has a thing for trash bags, if you close and forget a single bag you will probably be written up and treated like you're worthless.

To summarize if you like being abused my your boss and your customers this is the job for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop abusing your lower and middle management, try to communicate what's actually going on, and maybe hire some staff. Pay and promote instead of just making one guy do his bosses job after you fire or move them out of the store with less then a thank you.

    Pros

NONE......nothing at all is even decent about this evil corporation

    Cons

Super long hours.....Store managers are abused by being given unrealistic payroll hrs which forces them to come in your day off. Inventory's at sister stores are all scheduled on Managers day off = FREE LABOR. SM's have 0 say in anything that happens in the store. TERRIBLE PAY

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work the counter for 12 -15 hrs for a day ....see how you feel about the company then.

I have been working at AutoZone

    Pros

20 percent discount, Opportunity to learn about the automotive industry.

    Cons

Too many to list, they tell you when hiring you that they promote from within but routinely hire from outside for positions above you. The yearly raises are a complete joke. They care nothing about your personal schedule, if something comes up and you need to be off one particular night a week just temporarily you are told "too bad, no exceptions." The primary concern of upper management are the shareholders, nothing else matters. I still work for this company and get 20 percent off and wont spend a dime there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try thinking of something other than putting money in the pockets of investors, and stop lying to prospective employees and promote from within. Try paying a decent wage also, and give REAL raises.

I have been working at AutoZone part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The ONLY pro of working for AutoZone, for me, is I able able to actually assist customers with my knowledge of cars and give them hope that not all AutoZoners, are not complete knuckle dragging idiots.

    Cons

    Pay is a joke
Management as far as I have met is full of self-centered, micro-managing morons
Obsessed with selling tons of crap that is not even necessary and hounding employees to do so without incentive
    Hours are not consistent
Promotions are constantly promised and almost never given (I am the enigma)
    Mindless and repetitive
It is infested through and through with extremely stupid people who know little to nothing about cars. Its quite pathetic
Turn over rate is extremely high due to how poorly the company is run and structured

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to promote happiness and good morale
Hire people who are knowledgable about cars
Allow local store management to adjust their inventory to fit the demographic
Pay more through sales incentives or better base pay to ensure better sales
Learn that the best way to make a company thrive is to put your employees first, not bratty selfish customers or your pockets.

Decent benefits. Manager pay is good

    Cons

Inventory control at the distribution center is a joke. Inventory control falls back on the store
    Manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire professional human resource manager's.
Maybe some that can fire people that upset
Customers. Instead they put it off for months and
It falls on the store Manager who has no power to
    Fire.
