    I worked at AutoZone

    Pros

Best in the auto retail industry. Bonuses are great if you get them. Salary is low.

    Cons

Lot of lousy politics from people employed from field.
Directors don't have basic knowledge of excel.
    Extremely overbearing female head.
They will curb all opportunities for growth both inside and outside the department by giving you bad reviews when you apply outside the department.
Lousy political female runs the show!

I have been working at AutoZone part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Contacts with mechanics and shops that I would like to work with.

    Cons

Customers expect you to go out of your way to fix their issues at the instant. Scheduled hours are dreadful. Open from 8am-10pm. Parking with surrounding businesses always a haste.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Store management is satisfactory. Corporate advantage is present.

I worked at AutoZone full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is what you make it honestly. If you like people you have plenty of customers to interact with and a lot of them become regulars where friendships can grow.

    Cons

Very little pay for the responsibilities you are asked of especially the entry level managers. It seems like the only people making money are the store managers and up. Mandatory add on sales and conference calls where you are called out on not pushing products is fairly humiliating. If you are a part time worker your hours may be cut at any time and it is very spotty from week to week. The company will not back you at all they always take a customer's word over yours no matter how outlandish it is. I was offered jobs daily from customers in other companies and I turned many down because of promises of a set schedule and promotions that were never given to me. Loyalty and trust is a big thing for me and there is no loyalty or morale in this company. Moving on was the best decision I have ever made financially and being there for 6 years it was well overdue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Follow through with promises.

    Pros

People are very friendly; cafe in headquarters

    Cons

People are friendly, but along with that comes a mindset of 'we built this place' and are SURFACE level friendly. You won't get anywhere far here unless you started in a store and have spent the last 20 years of your life working for AutoZone. They only give credit to those they consider to have 'PUT THEIR TIME IN'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will forever lose good and bright talent if you do not change the non-acceptance culture of newbies that presently exists.

I have been working at AutoZone

    Pros

There are not many pros to working there. The only good part is that when you are hired full time you have guaranteed hours and benefits.

    Cons

The pay is very low considering the skills they want. You start as part time for just over the minimum wage. You have to deal with many horrible customers and they expect you to know cars better than most mechanics. They don't pay enough for that.

I worked at AutoZone full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you like working in as a pseudo-mechanic this is the place for you.

    Cons

Too much focus on check-out challenges, bulb grease and knowing the 5 steps to good customer service. I was repeatedly called and asked the steps by the DM who threatened my job because I didn't know it verbatim. The DM would always side with the customer regardless. One guy got a $50 gift card even though he intentionally vandalized the store with a product by spilling it in the back isle after I refused to give him the $50 product for $25. Later the same guy returned and physically threatened me in front of all the other customers unprovoked. Stores are terribly understaffed especially on shipment nights.

Benefits suck. Pay is too terrible to make any kind of living. Worked there 6 months as a Sales Manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people for your store and forget your bonuses that you get for keeping hours below a certain threshold. Care about your employees and pay them what they deserve. Be fair with the schedule and don't play favorites with your buddies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

respect your employees, follow through with your promises.
