I have been working at AutoZone full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

20% discount, that's pretty much about it. Nothing good ever has come from wasting my time here

    Cons

Long hours, low pay. Expect to be scheduled whenever the SM seems fit. Don't expect any kind of promotion unless you have large knee pads and know how to use them. They don't care how long you have been there or what you know if you don't use your knee pads and use them well you will never move up. High turnover rate because entry level is very low pay/hours and people cant live off of it. They will higher someone off the street and make them a SM before they will promote within. Expect to be micromanaged till your blue in the face. The PSMs, the SMs or the ASMs do not run the store the DM does, and he's being micro managed by the RM. I could go on and on but I think this sums it up. Stay away, don't even bother. I wouldn't even recommend this to someone on the street to be honest

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do the right thing and reward people for their hard work. Too many times people are brought in from the outside and loyal people that have time with the company under their belt get overlooked. DMs let the store managers manage the store.

    Pros

From what I can think of, there were no pro's to working at AutoZone.

    Cons

EVERYTHING...this place is actually a working pit in hell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to management. Lighten up a little bit. Give the employees a little breathing room to make work a likeable experience. Stop changing the end caps every 2 days. And when they aren't finished on time b/c you've got 6 people workinig during the day, and 2 at night when the store has to be cleaned and getting ready for the next day, stop chewing people out. Give people some time to get the work done, and done right. If something says it'll take 3 days to finish for it to be right. Give them 3 days, not a day and a half. And get new district managers. AutoZone is not the military. So stop trying to make us your "soldiers"

I worked at AutoZone part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The flexibility of the work schedules, most of the time

    Cons

Poor management, poor pay, lack of opportunities for full-time employment and advancement, employee attendance system that is deeply flawed. Upper management that is out of touch with management/employee relations and customer/employee relations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better store management, revamp the attendance system, create own model for retail success that isn't the same as or similar to wal-mart's model.

I worked at AutoZone full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

None only go there if you need a job to carry you over to find another. The turn over is great since employees leave so often. I've seen some resign buy texting the manager. Some went to lunch never to return.

    Cons

    1) none Terrible place to work. First started as a PSM. Was with in two weeks being told by the DM to learn the ropes as Store Managers Don't last long get prepared to be one. He was already undercutting the Store manager with in two weeks, In 11 months of being there he fired the Store Manager and gave me the position without any training.
    2) very very micromanaged expect as Manager too receive a call every 2 hours even on your off time at home for "numbers" Sales, the # of those small packets of grease they force on customers and checkout challenge usually fuel injector cleaner to run up the ticket price plus reward cards.
    3) store is under staffed and not enough time to finnish those tasks. Staff on slow days are told to go home early to cut payroll. Usually after staff left store would get busy and customers walk out.
    4) either you were favored by the DM and upper management which had nothing to do with job performance,
    5) AZ will never be a "big" player as the want to be in commercial as the rules change daily making commercial customers go to other places..
    6) could walk in one day and be fired for really no reason. I as store manager was called a number of time's to fire an employee just because the DM did not like that person. The employee sometime were some of my best employees. The DM would have you "setup" an employee and instruct you how to do it. Such as look like they stole money to get rid of that person.
    7) I if an opening was at the store would interview 3 people. They employee the DM would let you hire was not the best candidate but rather the lowest bidder.
    8) only way to stay with the company is to do unethical thing's.
    9) long hours as a Store Manager paid well but when your there 70-80 hours a week comes out to apx $11.50 an hour.
    10) everything is tracked. A conference call every Monday to belittle the other manager's. I was highest in most areas so my Monday Conference call's were not that bad.
    11) I had to step down to Commercial Spec, per advice of my doctor as the 3 years I was manager I aged 20 years from stress and was always very healthy started having very serious health issues caused by stress.
    12) Company want's you to think it's "your" store. It's not as it's micromanaged by the DM. The company is now under a class action suit from current and former managers for that reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to save payroll fire the Store managers as the DM's run the store anyway. Stop forcing customers who are ready to checkout try to sell them packets of grease, fuel injector cleaner, ask for a rewards card and plus during Christmas ask if they want to donate to a charity. The only way to make it is to fudge the number and hope loss prevention let's you alone. The only training I got from AZ was advice from other managers how to beat there system.

I worked at AutoZone full-time for more than a year

    Pros

38 hours is full time. Indoor work. employee discount.

    Cons

Management is corrupt and terrible. Pay is just above poverty line. They care more about their stupid little policies than the greater good of the store. No room to advance unless you bend over for your supervisor and do their bidding.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break up the corrupt relationships between store managers and DMs

    Cons

Empty promises, lack of district leadership, too much reverse discrimination. No trust to anyone in staffing. Bad company in SC.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When placing someone in training, allow them to train. Too much shuffling of employees/managers to make dms life of ease.

    Pros

pay, knowledge & some of the customers

    Cons

check out challenge, whittjr, badgering customers to buy stupid stuff they dont need DM micromanagment and all the things you will miss with your family especally if you are in management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you need to wake up an treat good employees better and find better ways to make extra profit instead of force feeding and lying to customers like when people ring up grease packets and just put them in bag instead of asking customer that is theft but if you are one of the "Boys" it is not questioned

I have been working at AutoZone part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

20% discount. There isn't any other pro about this junk job...

    Cons

Too many chiefs not enough indians. Upper management has no clue whats going on on the front lines. They want you to force the customer to buy the extra packet of lube to make your store manager and district manager bonus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and treat your employees the way you want your customers treated! A happy employee will bend over backwards for you if you pay them enough instead of the minimum wage. When they fired my manager that had been there for 27+ years and now they wonder why their sales aren't where they use to be. This company is a joke don't work for them.
