A company that would rather lose 10 good employees than fire a bad manager.

Senior Technical Writer (Former Employee)
Manchester, NH

I worked at Autodesk

ProsYou get to work with cool software. The office environment, spacially, is beautiful. There's opportunity to move geographically if you want or need to.

ConsLots of long term, embedded fat in the employee base. Most are entrenched into cliques of past bought-out companies. Management allows some employees to surf the web all day while other workers pick up the slack. Their review/compensation process is used as a cowardly payback system by disgruntled peers. It was by far the most juvenile, petty, and viscious environment that I have ever worked.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen an entire group rebels against a manager year after year with consistent, horrific reviews, perhaps you should replace the manager rather than let your best talent walk out the door with years of knowledge. Don't relocate the problem so another group will suffer; let the person go. Your loyalty to incompetant managers is your achilles heel.

They don't care for employees as they show...

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee)
Singapore (Singapore)

I worked at Autodesk full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGood work culture in terms of politeness. Flexi work hours. Good leave policy. Agile.

ConsManagement is not transparent. Business decisions are taken, and employees are reshuffled/moved out frequently. Managers tend to blame team members for failures, while taking credit for successes. Performance reviews are generally one-sided, with management reading out the final decision. Any argument or feedback goes unheard.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe transparent in your decisions, and take hits on your chin.

Top Down Mercenary Management in some Divisions

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Autodesk full-time

ProsThere are a lot of great people to work with. Decisions can be made quickly and they have the money to make things happen. Great office in SFO.

ConsManagement of the Manufacturing division only look up for input and then command those under them to do it. They give you all the leeway you need - to do things their way.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop promoting only people that are just like you.
