    Pros

The benefits are awesome at Autodesk. Sabbaticals, healthcare, wellness benefits, auto insurance, etc, all very excellent.
Work-life balance is pretty good for most people. Some people have jobs that require a lot from them though, so ask the tough questions at your interview.

    Cons

Salary isn't as great as people are somehow lead to believe.
If you get hired at a lower end of the salary range fro your grade level, good luck getting caught up to a higher end of the range.
You can't skip more than a grade level at a time and must be stepped through, even if you're qualified for a skip.

    Pros

Autodesk has been around for many years, but continues to allow itself to embrace disruption and find new ways to create new markets and continue growing old ones. They pay fairly and have a pretty robust compensation package. Time off is handled in a mature way with latitude for managers and reports to maintain life/work balance and focus on the results instead of "butts in seats." That being said, the teams are distributed, so meetings with global locations can run early and late. Welcome to the 21st century.

    Cons

Being 30+ years old, there are many entrenched ways of approaching problems, and while there are promising Agile and Lean initiatives, there are still plenty remnants from an older, waterfall methodology. They verbally encourage initiative and managing up, but when push comes to shove there can be serious top-down, dictatorial management that can create unnecessary churn.

    Advice to Management

You hire very smart people, provide ample opportunity for training and advancement, but there is too much "inside baseball" that prevents getting the most coordination from the entire organization - because there seems to be a gap between executive vision (right on, very compelling) and individual contributor roles. If there's too much room for interpretation of goals and initiatives that can lead to turf wars and conflict where there could be a united cause.

    Pros

nice payment, good company culture, good weather in San Francisco

    Cons

the team is too big, and there's no technical mentor located at San Francisco headquarter office. it takes time to communicate and get suggestion/support from other senior engineers.

    Pros

Excellent benefits and work life balance. Very smart people working in interesting problem areas.

    Cons

Politics negatively impact the ability to innovate and provide value to customers. Information from industry experts are frequently discounted by upper management. Very talented people are leaving the company due to issues with upper management.

    Advice to Management

Focus on Managers that positively lead teams and weed out ones focused on territorialism.

    Pros

Great experience, everyone was supportive and encouraged me to learn what I didn't know. If I had input, despite being a new member, I was always heard and sometimes encouraged to provide new input that may not have been noticed before. It was a very collaborative environment. Great company to get your foot in the door.

    Cons

Everyone is pretty much a contractor and therefore barrier of entry into the company become both a pro and a con. Easier for exposure, but difficult for full time career.

    Advice to Management

I would advise management to invest more in their employees by deciding quicker who deserves full time and who should get cut loose.
