I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

    travel, downtown San Francisco office

    Cons

    terrible management communication,
    terrible atmosphere,
    terrible culture.
    No transparency,
    no career path,
    no praise,
    no trust

Autonomy has grown very quickly through aquisition. It often scares away or eliminates those in the companies it aquires. This strategy might lead to good balance sheets and cash flow statements, but it does not help create a positive or healthy work atmosphere.

While some people have a good experience (because they are shielded from some senior managers), many do not and wish they could get out or for those who have - had gotten out sooner.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes founders stay onboard too long, great marketing fluff though

-Great customers and oppurtunity to learn customer interaction.

    Cons

-No feedback about performance, no reviews
-No raises, no communication regarding career path
    -No promotions
    - No growth
    - It is hard to keep giving your best when you are not getting anything back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Pay attention to employees and their needs.
    - Decentralize the control. Currently too much remote controlling going on from headquarters.

    I worked at Autonomy

    Pros

If you can bring business , the compensation is good

    Cons

Customer support, customer satisfaction are not good,
Repeat sales is difficult as customers are often unhappy
Do not expect much from marketing for leads
    Territories are not defined
Significant turnover of sales folks. It appears like sales folks are hired for their contacts for business and forced to leave after all possible business has been extracted from those contacts

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a brand though marketing and get some good leads for the sales. Spends more on keeping existing customers happy.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

The compensation package is good (and that's what they count on to keep you here), benefits are above average, interesting technology - when it works.

    Cons

The culture is horrid; these people are the ultimate micro-managers; the sketchy ethics make me afraid to learn too much about what goes on behind closed doors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'm not sure management is interested in any advice or feedback. It's definitely a "churn & burn" type culture. It's either their way, or the highway. Nothing in-between.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

Great technology, extremely differentiated, multiple business applications and essentially endless amount of opportunities. Potential to make massive amounts of money.

    Cons

Micromanaged, no communication, ridiculous expectations without regard for compensation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

sell to a company that can handle the organizational structure, the technology will speak for itself, the managment is doing it no favors

    I worked at Autonomy

    Pros

There's some sense of adventure within the top management. It's interesting to watch as people are jettisoned left and right for reasons that are unannounced and forgotten by morning.

    Cons

The technology is largely a marketing game with no real promise as the end of the day. Most of the senior level engineers have no interest in staying due to the lack of technological creativity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a community that cares about the business they're in. Revamp your hiring policies to include students from more schools. Invest in the future of your employees. Engage in dialogue.

    I worked at Autonomy

    Pros

Compensation and hands-off management - until a single bad month.

    Cons

Baby-sitting, complete and utter distrust for employees, removal of information from employees' hands, all the power resides in the UK, mass exodus of employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust people and make Autonomy a decent place to work.
