    I worked at Avago Technologies

    Pros

LSI used to be very good company to work for. Good working environment. Good product and profit margin. Work and life balance

    Cons

Since acquired by Avago, it is a completely different company. New management only care about sheet balance and paper number. Force everyone come to office no matter if the work can be remotely done or not

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep talent people not only look at the paper sheet balance

    End Of An Era

    I worked at Avago Technologies

    Pros

While working for LSI Corporation, the overall compensation was competitive, the work environment was great, the perks were good, the leadership was good, in general, and the the best part was working was such a great and diverse employee base.

    Cons

After being purchased by Avago, there was little information on direction by upper management. Morale was very low, and a lot of employees left, on their own accord, for better opportunities. There was mass layoffs on the legacy LSI side. Whole divisions were sold off for pennies on the dollar.

    Pros

Portfolio of leading products with limited competition. This is the company strategy. It allows for strong prices and good operating income. The strategy has resulted in stock price improvements. Compensation is focused on long term components: weak salary; strong equity.

    Cons

Extreme focus on short term revenue and minimizing costs. Absolute minimum of benefits possible to keep employees. Leadership is completely focused on operating income.
Buying established product lines and milking them for profitability is not good for the customers.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Avago purchased LSI earlier this year. Good news was that some of the less productive employees and managers were left go.

    Cons

Bad news is that new managements focus seems to be on trivia. They let good people go, but they have manpower enough to monitor who badges in every morning or works from home. Seems like management has more important issues to deal with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You've said multiple times that your people are your greatest resource but haven't done anything to show that yet.

    Pros

Reasonable payout and bonuses. Some divisions are very supportive.

    Cons

Middle sales management is taking the company down. They work towards their benefits, not the company and upper management actually listened to them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to listen to the people who are actually doing the work.

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Senior managers are in Asia or California most of the year

    Cons

Senior Managers (VP and up) take action without knowledge of the impact in the area of change.
It is very clear they don't care about the people who work for them
We are all just $ on a spreadsheet sorted by yearly cost and age.
If you are over 50 watch out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging from the top. Grow up.. if the jobs gets done on time, and on budget congratulate the team that makes the success that pays your 40 million dollar paycheck. Managing working from home at the CEO level is beyond belief. CEO reminds me of "Neutron Jack Welch" .. after he visits the buildings are still standing, but there are no people left inside. Sort by yearly cost per employee, and fire from the top down....... nice .....

I have been working at Avago Technologies full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The work is challenging but not overwhelming. Managers are willing to let you work from home for the occasional family issues. People are all bright and really nice.

    Cons

Layoffs are based on salary and not performance. Cutting cost takes priority over retaining talent. Company is set to maximize profit margin in the short term but at the expense of future revenue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think again about the talent you are letting go and the talent that is walking out the door. You will soon find you have greatly reduced your overhead count but lost irreplaceable talent.

    Pros

The company is profitable, so bonuses have been healthy these couple of years.

    Cons

Low base pay compared to industry. Upper management with no empathy towards employees. Product lines that do not have a bright future. A culture of mistrust. A lot of empty words by upper management. The focus is not on future innovation, but milking mature products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better work-life balance policies would be nice.
Improve base pay to attract better talent.
