    Loss Mitigation Recovery Specialist

Loss Mitigation Recovery Specialist (Former Employee)
    Virginia Beach, VA

ProsNice work environment due to resent renovations. Avalonbay offers their employees free soft drinks along with tea and coffee.

ConsA lot of the tenured associates walk around feeling a since of low morale due to not being able to have a voice when it comes to possible improvements that could make the work flow smoother. Also it can be very frustrating because you never get a job descriptions of your day to day job so what you do can change in an instant and they don’t compensate well.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease care about your employees because when they feel cared for they will work even harder for you.

Micro managed by managers who are more concerned with stock price than actual resident needs and employee development

    Customer Service Supervisor (Former Employee)

    ProsHousing benefit was great.

ConsUpper management will more often take the side of the resident before even listening to the employee. In one year my communities customer service scores dropped significantly and the only change was a new Senior Manager. However all the blame was laid on the staff already there. It was clear they were directed to clean house of any long term associates.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employee first.

This is a frustrating company to work for.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Newport Beach, CA

ProsA hand full of great people. Good benefits.

ConsCorporate red tape is never ending. Technology is outdated and makes work slow. Frustrating environment. This company is successful in spite of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementValue the employees who actually do the work. Not just the ones who say yes and fit the corporate image. This company has gone downhill since the acquisition of Archstone and the hiring of many of their "entitled" attitude employees.

Stable employer but far too bureaucratic.

    Customer Service Manager (Former Employee)
    Los Angeles, CA

    ProsMostly friendly on-site workers
    Good pay for the workload.
    Decent benefits.
Some very good, and supportive managers

ConsThe Customer Care Center at HQ is pretty awful. Although there are a few good people there, most are incompetent and unfriendly.
Regional managers frequently spoke of advancements, but promotions were very rare and highly political. I knew some very qualified people at my level who should have been promoted but were overlooked several times.
Very hard to get weekends off unless you were a regional manager.
Spent money on things that made no sense, but then wouldn't spend money on other things that seemed pretty important.

Advice to Senior ManagementFire yourself - for the most part you add no value.

    Wouldn't make a career here!

    Community Consultant (Former Employee)

    Pros-Great Residents
-Opportunity to meet new and interesting people daily
    -Health benefits (average)

    Cons-Too much micromanaging
-Cheap when it comes to both residents and employees
-Money is more the focus that customer service at times
    -No room for growth
-Advancement from within based on office politics and favoritism, not hard work

Poor training for first time leasing consultants, and cut throat management.

    Leasing Consultant (Former Employee)

Prospay was avarage at $15 plus 75 per lease and renewal
many good ideas for a company
the people they got from Archstone were actually very nice and cool

ConsThey expected people to make sweet lemonade out of rotten lemons
Absolutely poor training for first time leasing consultants.
    All about the numbers
    Unprofessional managers
    Arrogant associates
Many good ideas yet poor execution of those ideas
Did not like to pay for overtime and were cheap on materials

Advice to Senior ManagementFor a company that is big like this, you should train people better within your 90 day period so that you could yield more from your investment. Stop being so darn cheap on overtime and materials.

    Former Middle Manager

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsMany great benefits as compared to other firms. Organization does try to remain true to hiring from within.

ConsAction taken against employees is often very sneaky and underhanded. The wide path of the organizations policies foster a culture of taking only business minded action without considering all circumstances of the associate. While this is true of most companies, this one seems to work more frequently in this manner and associates are not given a fair opportunity to rebut or explain.

It was alright but not excellent

    Former Community Consultant (Former Employee)

    Prosmedical coverage
    401k
sick time , flex time , vacation time
    training
    sales experience

Cons1)Cleaning vacant apartments and cleaning move in ready apartments
    2) There is plently of seniority / podded communities and hardly any growth potential.
    3) the company implements new formats on how to get things done all the time -thus you are memorizing all the new ways of going about your day and as soon as you get it - guess what - there is another way of doing the same job.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocusing on marketing is great but it would also be great for them to implement a solid internal structure starting from the maintenance team up to the community managers.
