    Great talent, poor sales approach

    Sales (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsCompany has very skilled and knowledgeable technical experts. Impressive library of assets to be leveraged for sales and project delivery purposes.

ConsTypically not very cost competitive in the regional / local direct markets. Majority of services sold and delivered on Accenture's coat tails. Many internal processes that incumber speed and flexibility when working with clients.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider deploying local sales and delivery if you want to grow direct business

Huge company, lots of bragging rights, but out of touch with reality

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsBenefits, MSDN subscription, expense account (obviously as a consultant), massive amount of resources available in terms of technical documentation, methodologies, etc.

ConsGrueling travel schedule, client must have the same holiday dates otherwise required to work, seemed to be a notion of perpetuating their presence otherwise projects could probably have been moved along quicker, and a lot smoother. Heavy, heavy, heavy favoritism. Knowledgeable people who tout their certifications and past experiences, but don't effectively manage, nor deliver... which they seem to enjoy doing.

Advice to Senior ManagementLiving in the corporate culture of who is more senior than whom is not a profession.

Stepping Stone, Not Corner Stone of a Career

    Program Manager (Former Employee)

ProsGood benefits for "quality of life." Given the right leadership alignment one can create opportunities for themselves within Avanade with the solid business case. Great career development model and learning/training repository. Global company provides exposure to international and diverse project work.

ConsWork-life balance is hard to come by if you have a family or want any time off. Compensation is low to avg and they will take as much as you give, then ask for more. Like most companies of the similar size and model advancement opportunities are based on internal politics over achievements. Leadership is not consistent, some sectors have strong leaders while others have no business being in people/career management of any sort. For an "innovative" technology company, most of the innovation is externally focused leaving internal process and technology antiquated. Since Accenture leads and owns most of the projects, Sr level/Exec advancements opportunities are hard to come by.

Advice to Senior ManagementHard to give advice to upper manager, as I'm not really sure how much influence they have over Accenture who pretty much runs the show.

    Fast Moving Company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat for starting out of college as you will get a lot of training.

ConsToo much work related to Accenture related accounts.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to win more direct business and take ownership of delivery.

Good "foot in the door" opportunity

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOn site support, wide variety of opportunities, good for entry into IT field for career changers

ConsLower than market pay rate, redundant forms/logs, limited access to Avanade resources for contract employees, administrative/corporate inefficiencies can limit employee productivity.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere's something to be said about employing the "Keep It Simple Stupid" methodology when it comes to the administrative activities that employees are responsible for completing in regards to training, compliance, time reporting, etc...

Great People, business model centered around offshoring

    Contract Software Developer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsWorked with some really bright, caring people
Learned a lot of very new technology

ConsThe whole business model of Avanade revolves around maximizing the off-shored work. As a dev in the US the main task is to interface with the end customer, ensure the project stays on track, train the devs brought in on temporary work visas, and ensure that work can be off shored as soon as possible. If you're an FTE, plan on being available for early morning or late night calls with off shore groups

    Practice What you Preach

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsOutstanding training and some awesome staff. Benefits and compensation are competitive. Technology is innovative and always cutting edge.

ConsCareer path is not as great as it sounds. There are levels employees can aspire to reach; however, the number of promotions is capped at each valuation period. Treat employees equally in all situations. Retain proven talent as is preached all the time. Be truthful about terminations.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should also practice what they preach. When a manager sends out a communication about how a matter should be handled, the manager should heed their own advice and handle matters per their communication.

    Concern for work/life balance

    Product Manager (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsMost of the people are genuine and helpful.

ConsTechnical people in managerial roles are not capable of managing people

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide consistent career management for senior leaders.

Great company if you need staff augmentation for Microsoft technologies

    Director Technical Sales (Former Employee)
    Arlington, VA

ProsAvanade has been growing at a fast pace and will continue to do so. This provides great growth opportunities for people with deep Microsoft technology experience.

ConsAvanade is a wholly owned subsidiary of Accenture & Microsoft, and in many cases has to compete with its parents for business at Enterprise accounts; this leads to some dysfunctional behavior between account teams. Many customers have never heard of Avanade, from a brand awareness perspective. And in my opinion there are way too many processes and procedures internally that hinder flexibility / agility when pursuing business.
