I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people and technology. There is opportunity for ongoing education internally and externally. Perfect place for anyone with deep Microsoft expertise.

    Cons

Keep hiring women. If you don't negotiate vacation days when you are hired you only get a week or two (depending on location).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow Microsoft and the rest of the world - get rid of stack ranking - calibration. There are better ways to rate people.

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There is a serious desire to update and change the business strategy. People here are smart and earnest. There are a lot of folks who have been here since the very beginning, mixed with newbies, which leads to interesting conversations. The proclaimed focus on customer seems to be sincere.

    Cons

Bit of an identity crisis: is this an Accenture shop? A Microsoft shop? How do we build our own culture and identify? Decision-making has to run up the chain, sometimes unnecessarily complicating that process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the expertise of those you hire. Provide some latitude for decision-making. Offer a more compelling strategy than building revenues. Everyone wants to build revenues. What are we doing that's special, different and meaningful?

    I worked at Avanade

    Pros

Avanade has a very strong team culture where it is viewed that everyone's success is important. There is also a strong work/life balance attitude to ensure that burnout is held in check.

    Cons

I do not have any major cons at this time. The only issue I was faced with was a lack of a pipeline and closed deals to support the bench resulting in a 15% RIF which happens in the consulting world.

    Pros

Great career advancement opportunity for the right individuals

    Cons

Male dominated culture and can be challenging for women in other divisions of the company. Midwest much better in retrospect

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pretty well paid, awesome co-workers, good benefits, challenging work, use of cutting edge technologies, abundant training, clear & consistent path to promotions, ability to drive change at any career level.

    Cons

Work-life balance can be a challenge, HR Leadership has some unreal expectations and is starting to become focused way more on the bottom line than anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the leaders that report to you. They have more experience than you in certain areas and therefore may know of better ways to do things. They have the best interest of Avanade and it's bottom line in mind at all times. By just letting them do their thing, you will see the results you want.

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Training to help you stay on top of the IT Curve. They also have a program called Passion for Technology. It is an awesome program that gives you benefits to purchase technology related products and expense them through out the year up to your qualified amount based on job title.

    Cons

Although the company offers training to it's employees, it is hard to find time to actually get to do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Over all this is a good company to work for. I would always like to see the option to be able to work from home more often. We are setup as a company to be able to do this but not given the option to?

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Top 5 reasons to consider working here:
    1) The collaboration is amazing.
    2) There is full communication across all levels within the company (Analyst to Director).
    3) Intellectual knowledge is freely shared, which makes learning a joy.
    4) Your worth is measured by your product knowledge - rather than your title.
    5) The training opportunities are exceptional. Certifications, classes, professional development - all inclusive.

    Cons

Top 3 reasons to look elsewhere:
    1) Accenture owns Avanade and the work cultures are very different. One rough Accenture project (and there's plenty of those) and you'll be on LInkedIn looking for your next opportunity.
    2) An overly collaborative environment unfortunately sacrifices any chance for true leadership development. There are plenty of Managers, but exceptionally few leaders here. Accenture is not looking for leaders with their hired help.
    3) The bonuses/pay-raises are insulting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep on keepin' on. Be great if we could buy-out from Accenture, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I have been working at Avanade full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Works very closely with Accenture and Microsoft so great exposure for young professionals starting careers.

    Cons

Avanade strongly believes in Microsoft products and that is great however sometimes there are other products that are not widely adopted because they are not Microsoft.

    Pros

There's a lot of opportunity for learning and growing, good benefits, intelligent people (at least in certain areas).

    Cons

There is a lot of corporate bloat, slow-to-grasp people, and a lack of transparency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open and transparent about what you do and don't know.
