Former Employee – worked at Avaya full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Avaya has amazing people and solid technology; the customers are terrific and the base of customers is extensive. The Day 2 support is best in the industry.
Cons – The executives made some bone-head decisions and have focused recently on the mid-market instead of large and/or super-enterprise. As an account manager in the super-enterprise space, this was frustrating. The Nortel acquisition, in hindsight, was a distraction and allowed for Avaya's competitors to catch up and take market share.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop living in the past; do what's right for your customer.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Avaya
Pros – Great work culture, good pay and a bright set of engineers
Cons – Commitment levels of software engineers should be higher. Did'nt see lot of opportunities for growth
Advice to Senior Management – Lots of re-orgs, focus on what you want to do and get it done. We waste so much time of getting approvals which can be minimized.

Former Employee – worked at Avaya full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Dedication to customer service
Serves Fortune 500 customers
Management is always available and willing to engage
Personal opportunities for growth are promoted
Telecommuting
Cons – Migration of tech support and other key positions overseas
Hardware shortages
Too much focus on project due dates, low tolerance when they change even if customer requires it
Downsizing decisions based on certification status rather than performance
Complex SAP order system
Training your replacement over seas
Advice to Senior Management – Please review the metrics used when deciding whom to let go. Some of us were able to manage 20+ projects at a time and were 110% dedicated to our teams and customers. We did not deserve to have our positions given to people over seas who barely speak English. Customer satisfaction should also be a top priority when making these decisions.
