I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Love the technology and working with customers. Also, being able to work from home is a plus. Colleagues are also great. My management is fair, and I am free to exercise initiative. My management empowers me, and I like the level of control I have.

    Cons

It isn't a 9-5 job if that is what you're looking for. You have to fight for training and teach yourself a lot. The job is not for everyone because you have so much self control and must be very self sufficient. It would be not be a position for someone who needs a lot of direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training opportunities would be good.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The best part about Avaya is the energy and motivation that the employees bring to the company. The innovation at the company will take it to new heights! Being able to work virtually from anywhere in the world is a great flexibility. This also allows for great work/personal life balance.

    Cons

The name of the company isn't out there like the competitors are. Marketing just needs to be more for the company for people to know who exactly Avaya is during a random conversation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encouraging further education would only be beneficial to the company in the long run. So having reimbursement plans for that would be great.

I have been working at Avaya as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly employees, relaxed environment, and very rewarding experience. My schedule is somewhat laid out for me, but it's flexible. The pay is great, too! 18/hr for an internship? Very hard to beat, these days! I definitely see a future here.

    Cons

Not a whole lot, this place is pretty great! The change in leadership is due to the changes from Lucente to Avaya and acquisition of Nortel... what do you expect?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trial and Error, we'll find the right upper management eventually. Just give it time before you toss them out the door, though!

I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Been with Avaya for a little over 2 years, hired into inside sales with minimal telecom/IT experience spent 18 months there learning the processes and procedures before applying to and getting a job in the field. Every direct report manager I have had has been extremely helpful in growing my skill set and understanding, each one has taught me something new regarding Avaya, the industry, and sales in general.

    -Career growth/development
    -Continual training in Industry
    -Product improvement
-realistic CEO that does not sugarcoat during quarterly All-Hands calls
    -Excellent pay & benefits
    -Telecommute
-in a state of growth, when I applied for my field role Avaya was on a hiring freeze I reached out to the RSL directly and after a few months was offered the position. Following the Global Sales Conference Avaya has since brought out several people from Inside Sales into the field.
-Very optimistic on my career and earning possibilities.
-Co-workers are very willing to help you out and assist in anyway possible
    -Incredible rate base commission plan

    Cons

    -Previous layoffs have scared employees
-As with any big company new initiatives are slow to get into place
-Channel partners competing with one another can sometimes make job feel like a babysitter
-Divisions within Avaya don't often work well together and it often feels that you are waging civil war to get something done
-Having moved from a large office setting to working from home/field can get lonely
-Working from home makes it hard to disconnect no where near an 8-5 experience
    -Constant change

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Hard to conduct team building activities based on geographical distance of sales territory.
-Greater stability on the EC in my tenure CEO has remained the same but nearly every other EC member has changed once or twice
-find away to have one message and understanding across multiple divisions of Avaya, I often receive emails from people I've never heard of before asking questions about an opportunity that I don't remotely understand why they are involved.
-To many overlays for products that are not needed and too few overlays where needed.
