I have been working at Avaya

    Pros

Great people and talent in the SE organization. Avaya has some great products with unrivaled stability. The company is working hard to transform into a software/applications vendor and we are starting to introduce some great new products in the area of collaboration, customer experience, mobility, and communications enables business processes. It has been a goods place to work, less sure about what the future holds.

    Cons

Impossible to get a salary increase or move from one SE title to the next once you have been here for a while. The commission plan is reasonable when they set quota fairly, which they are not at all good at doing. Once above 100% great escalators of 2:1 and 3:1. Again , if you have been given an achievable quota. Upper management seems to change every two years in the sales organization. There appears to be some sharp people there now, most seem to be coming form Cisco and bringing all their friends. Will have to see if they are hear in two years and deliver on the plans and promises. They have let go of a lot of great talent in the services area so that makes it challenging when implementing what you have sold. Everything is based on EBITA, if profit margins or sales revenue are not there, they improve EBITA through expense reduction, which is usually force reduction.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Not tied to a desk. You can bring your company vehicle home and report directly to your first customer stop without reporting to an office. Manage your own workload. Each day is different. Great benefits and pay. Plenty of overtime. Very challenging. Always something new to learn.

    Cons

Very little technical support. Must find everything you need to know on the internet. Not an 8 to 5 job. Customer needs dictate your work hours. One week a month you have to take the on call duty for 24 hour coverage. Very large area to cover, all of northern Illinois.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to make tech support much more accessible.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Make people work hard and feel comfortable in company. People are very talent and frendly.

    Cons

As there is no admin staff in local, most things should be done personally. Salary level can not say that it is very good.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to understand local's sales culture, fore example,
     - Need to meet technical features rather than stress on solution
     - Need to be price competitive
