I worked at Avaya full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good culture and surrounded by smart people. Employed the best of the breed technologies to develop the products and hence it was always a good learning experience.

    Cons

Top management kept changing and lost focus on the projects that were started by the earlier management team and hence it was hard to compete with other companies int he market with reduced focus in execution

I worked at Avaya full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits were good when I worked there. Co-workers made the work environment great and the work was usually challenging without being over-taxing.

    Cons

Management is focused on Metrics and reducing the customer facing experience. Not enough focus given to training on new products. Most training ends up happening onsite in front of the customer. Sales teams always seem to get precedence over the services teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start focusing on the employees and the customers again instead of just meeting the numbers.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good work ethics/culture for most part, technology is bleeding edge in some areas, sometimes too new for the market.

    Cons

company struggles with revenues, hence very short term numbers oriented currently. Decisions is driven by financial numbers rather than project/skill needs and long term vision.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee retention is not high on the list of values. There are no incentives for employees to stay any more. The technology is such that you need people with experience and historical background in RnD and product management to be most effective. Don't see that happening which will create a big gap and technological advances and competitiveness will be affected. Even if not for the rest of the company, product development and product management should have employee retention incentives.

I have been working at Avaya full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very nice, capable, and talented co-workers, senior managers, and directors. Good CEO that communicates with the company well. Relatively well paying.

    Cons

Bonus structure has thresholds almost impossible to attain so bonuses are almost non-existent. Constantly rotating C-level positions causes the department I am in to lurch in different directions every 18 months (we have had 3 C-level VP's in the 4 yrs I have been with the company). Draconian cost cutting on expenses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire competent C-level VP's and stick with them. Hire VP's that treat employees well instead of acting like children throwing a tantrum when they don't get what they want.
