I have been working at Avery Dennison as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice people, gorgeous new office. Good place to start out of college.

    Cons

Overall not a great place to have cross functional growth. Very matrixed so hard to get momentum on projects. Not the most supportive of change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More transparent communication and engagement of staff at all levels; entry on up.

At Avery Dennison I watched them try so hard to lean out everything to death while keeping too many chiefs on staff.

I worked at Avery Dennison full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They offered good training and fair vacation. Good working conditions and decent pay. Workers were encouraged to offer ideas to make things better.

    Cons

There were too many managers around while the workers were hounded to produce higher production numbers. People who were willing to work fast became expected to work hard all the time.

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Flexible work environment and casual attire

    Cons

Old school company, very process driven and bureaucratic. Short term results driven at the cost of longer term strategic investments

    Pros

Very Good team members & Decent benefits

    Cons

Heavy middle management, more managers than hands on working employers. Many senior personal leave or are laid off due to new VP's or directors working style

I have been working at Avery Dennison as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

This is a great place to start your career with plenty of room to grow and relocate (if you so wish). As a large company, there are decent benefits and compensation. The work environment is driven and leadership pushes for results.

    Cons

The higher up-the-ladder you look, the more stressed and overworked the employees become. Everyone is very busy with their own schedule (lots of meetings), that the culture feels anxious.

    I worked at Avery Dennison

    Pros

Good benefits. Many locations such that you got opportunities to travel many places. It is a California company with some high tech cultures.

    Cons

Too big with matrix organization such that it might take longer to make a decision. Many divisions got different priorities, that might make the decision-making situation even worse.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work-life balance

  8.

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to horn political skills
Good place to learn well how not to lead and manage others
Good place where people can succeed better by managing their bosses than their work

    Cons

Lack of real strategy and focus , running out of ideas to grow profitably .
Reactive leadership to stock price movements
Leadership is a " members only " club and promotions are very irrational

Bring BCG back again .. to train you better to reduce the number of VP's ( high pay low value )

I have been working at Avery Dennison full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Solid structure, competitive, strategic in the markets that they serve. Appear to be forward thinking but the sale of some core competencies makes you wonder what would Stan think.....

    Cons

lack of investment in people, systems, and leaders. Too much nepotism and "old boy" network at play. Regions and plant locations are pitted against each other creating negative tension that is not positive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You can't build for the future on a foundation of sand.
