Avis Budget Group is a place which values years of service, but not talent/new ideas

    Pros

A 7 hour work day, which is good for working families with children, and lots of facilities (cafeteria, access to other resources, benefits and discounts etc.) are the best reasons.

    Cons

The management doesn't embrace change that easily, or proactive suggestions from junior employees towards positive change. There's a lot of resources and skills in people there which go non-utilized, unnoticed, and they end up doing nothing, and wasting time. The channels through which projects squander money especially in IT, and the bureaucracy which eats up time are not scrutinized enough by the upper management. The manner in which employees are recognized is always not fair.

    Advice to Management

    - Set up a 360 degree feedback system during performance reviews, which would enable every employee to rate his/her superiors too. Listen to the concerns of everyone, starting from interns. - Do critical functions in every department internally, instead of outsourcing to outside vendors such as IBM. Outsourcing in the case of this company has only decreased accountability, and increased turnaround times. - Subject every project proposal to a careful examination, and make sure that the money is not getting squandered until the very end of the project. This could be achieved by setting up performance metrics for every project. - Keep in mind that recognizing newer talent is also as important as service within the company.

    Pros

A 7 Hour work day is attractive and my current boss is very understanding when it comes to life-work balance.

    Cons

There are things that need to be fixed: processes, compensation and the fact most senior management does not solicit the opinions of those in the trenches. Hard work does not mean moving forward, while "yes" ing management does.

    Advice to Management

Listen to ideas of other employees to improve processes while promoting people based upon hard work and value.

    Pros

OK place to work. Great life work balance and good health insurance. Great subsidized food from the cafeteria and gym on site with classes.

    Cons

Very hard to advance your career, senior management has its favorites, pay was bad and I did not mean anything to get a graduate degree, no pay increase!

    Advice to Management

Please be fair with promotions, only the favorites get promoted and they are the ones with the bad job performance! Please bring back the coffee! (did not like this cost savings measurement!))

    Pros

Best place to learn and develop management style. And I mean it. Everything you learn there is applicable to each industry and is more than you can bargain for.

    Cons

Even with great time management skill, you will work a minimum of 60 Hours a week. If you are single it will increase your chance of promotion and later you will be working less. If you do not plan on focusing on anything but career for the next 7-10 years best environment to work.

    Advice to Management

    Get some help for management.

    Pros

Local market locations are better than the airport. Decent benefits and pay for an entry level job.

    Cons

Not really any upward mobility. It is a dead end job with almost no room for professional growth. Not recommended as a long term choice.

    Pros

Awesome people to work w. Low starting salary but commission is easy to pile up. On holidays its only you. Doing 4 depts jobs.

    Cons

Horrible hours. Esp on holidays if your low on the totem pole. Management is on you daily about sales at the counter.

    Advice to Management

Schedule better on holidays and normal days. Instead of telling us how we screw up every day it would be nice to hear a good job every now and then.

    Pros

The people. Job security. And Union brothers and sisters. Union benefits.

    Cons

Physically, a very monotonous, demanding job. A person can become ill.

    Advice to Management

Its's not that easy. Know your market niche. We're just renting cars, not changing the economy. The cheaper, the better.

    Pros

Most fellow employees are great to work with. The employees genuinely care about the success of the company and the customers. Flex time and summer hours are great. Good location. Compensation and benefits are slightly above average.

    Cons

Not receptive to constructive criticism or being questioned, they want Yes people. Incompetent senior management. Lost a lot of good people from the company since 2008. Can be difficult to make a name for yourself if you get pigeonholed into a role. Some people suffer from "Cendantitis." Inconsistent discipline treatment of employees by HR.

    Advice to Management

Consider changes to senior management. Focus on growing the brand. Better communication with employees when things aren't going well - too much stress when you aren't sure if you will have a job tomorrow. HR needs to be more consistent with discipline to insubordinate employees.
