Former Employee - Rental Sales Agent in Miami, FL

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    No cap on commission
    Base pay
    Benefits
    Pto
    Vto
Slack management if the location has a union
Due to industry high season you have tons of customers

    Cons

    Schedule is by senerioty
Management is for customer service and the managers will take off your sell in 2 seconds
If you don't sell it will effect your commission negatively
Lots of rejection because customers have already been sold to by their travel agent
Rental agent is only to upgrade and sell excess insurance that is truly useless
    Low season is dead
High season is crazy and there never is sufficient fleet to meet demands and promises made by company making customers angry and not willing to buy
BUT you pretty much set your own prices with upgrades and have tons of customers for high season. I made Over 15k in a month during peak season and averaged 4k a month for the rest of the year plus base pay. It is a very hard sale but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easy. I quit because if I was so good selling to people who didn't wanna buy I can imagine how much I'll make to people who do wanna buy a product.
Most sales agents are unpleasant because customers are unpleasant
There have been rental agents in the same position for 40+
    No room to grow
Only airport locations in high tourist areas thrive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more patience with sales agents because the job is tough and keep in mind customers know you will take off the sale and only agreed to it because they knew they can get away with a free upgrade from a subcompact to a bmw

I worked at Avis Budget Group full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I got to drive new cars every day. The environment was fast paced so time flies. Manager didn't get in your way as long as you do the job right. It's was fun working here.

    Cons

The pay could be slightly better, I felt that my work hours were unbalanced, I had to work extra on the weekends with little sleep hours in between when working over time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management wasn't there when needed, communication issues with my manager is what cause them to fire me. Little training but I managed to get used to it and make good decisions on my own. I was in a group of deaf driver felt like I was in with the handicap club.

I have been working at Avis Budget Group

    Pros

    Management positions open often
    Steady work
    Accessible by public transportation
You can check your own payroll hours on your phone
    They have fashionable new uniforms

    Cons

Policy discourages promotions of Union members & mandate them to accept a higher position at another branch with the possibility of returning to their original location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please, Please Please !!! Don't wait 9 extra months to sign our union contract like last time. Our families will be hurting as we wait for only a 50 cent raise

I have been working at Avis Budget Group full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good place to begin. Flexible hours. Not much scope for career progression. Fun place to work at though. I would recommend as a place to start career

    Cons

Lack of scope to progress career. Not much training, salary and benefits not as good as they could possibly be. Lack of communication from upper to lower level

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider more formal training structure with a more obvious progression pyramid

I have been working at Avis Budget Group

    Pros

The employees are fun, nice and easy going. The manager is very cool and flexible with our schedule. Get to drive the newest cars around.

    Cons

Wages are minimum wage standards and raises are minimal. If you are part time you can't work more than 24 /week. They usually try and schedule you 4 days for 6 hrs each day. It would be better to get 3 days for 8 hrs each.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thanks for being so cool. That's why I stay, obviously not the pay. If the pay was at least $10/hr, the turnover wouldn't be so high.
