I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Very flexible work schedule. Good senior leadership.

    Cons

Lots of reorgs, but if you can easily adjust to change, it is a good place to work

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people! Flexible hours (within reason). I had a company laptop, so I could telecommute if necessary. I got to travel for work and be part of a great team

    Cons

Government schedules often changed on a dime resulting in a rush to do work or having work that was being scheduled disappear. Not a lot of room to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer CAPM study help and push that for newer PM employees. This will help motivate to get PMP.

I have been working at BAE Systems USA

    Pros

It might depend on which program you end up on, but in my experience, people here are intelligent, hard working and extremely friendly. The hours are flexible (9/80, so every other Friday off) and you're not micromanaged, which is something I really appreciate. Even though I don't have that much experience, they gave me the opportunity to prove myself and do actual development instead of just testing or code maintenance. Company is invested in its employees and it shows in the company culture.

    Cons

They can be slow adopting new technologies, but that has more to do with the govt contract constraints.

I worked at BAE Systems USA as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Big defense contracts at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard with resources to match.

    Cons

Subcontractors not at same level of integrity and professionalism. Often from low bid contractors from the East Coast.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Subcontractors can lower your perceived standards.

    Pros

Management willing to provide opportunities for growth and new challenges.
    Great work enviornment.

    Cons

Benefits continue to shrink and costs increase year after year.
As defense budgets shrink, the company has not been able to win new work, which has resulted in many lay-offs/down-sizing.

    Pros

    Cons

Subject to Government funding even though BAE does its very best to keep you employed.

I worked at BAE Systems USA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

BAE offered a competitive salary, lots of schedule flexibility, relocation pay since I moved there from a different part of the country, and paid overtime. I had to work 85 hours in a 2 week pay period to be paid for my OT, but after I reached 85, I was compensated for all of it (including the 81-85 gate). 9/80 schedule.

    Cons

DC area is a lousy location. This is not BAE's fault, however.
