DECENT ATMOSPHERE

IMAGE KEYER SPECIALIST (Current Employee)
Charleston, WV

I have been working at BB&T part-time for more than 8 years

ProsThis place was a good "college job." The hours were part time but sometimes got very late into the night. I was able to finish my degree.

ConsUpper management can sometimes be "secretive" or not as forthcoming about information and sometimes pull the old bait and switch on the information you did get from them.

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople just want to have the truth. We are all adults and it is easier to be forthcoming instead of having rumors get started about something that may happen or may not happen at all.

Average Conservative Financial Company

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at BB&T full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThis is a good place to learn a lot about business, processes, and business politics. I sincerely mean that. After working at BB&T and at other places without any processes, I have learned that there needs to be a balance (some but not too many, make sure you have the right ones).

BB&T offers decent business and leadership training. I enjoyed many of the courses and learned a lot about myself.

ConsThese might have just been related to our area:
- Too many reorganizations. Change the structure and let it be for at least 2 years. You don't know if something is effective after only a year.
- Too many meetings.
- Too many circular meetings which relates to
- No real direction.

For the company as a whole:
- Too much inter-department fighting and jealousy when the departments have a bit of overlap.
- Still too much of a "good-ole boys", conservative environment

Good but scary place to work

Certified Senior Teller (Former Employee)
Murray, KY

I worked at BB&T part-time for more than 5 years

ProsWork load is reasonable, easy to learn and cross-train. Loved getting to know clients. Very good benefits. My insurance for just me was free. I was actually paid $30 a month to have their insurance. A program called Life Force made that possible. I miss that more than anything else about the job. I made life-long friends there too, that's important.

ConsMicro managing!!! Hated being told what to do from people in Louisville. Lately they have "eliminated positions" like nobody's business. Teller is the only stable position in the company. As a teller I felt like I knew all there was to know after about two years. Made me lax and uncommitted because there were no opportunities to advance.

Advice to Senior ManagementVisit branches more, stop micro managing. Call branches and ask opinions, it can't hurt. Give more than a piece of chocolate for a Christmas gift.

I worked at BB&T full-time for more than 10 years

ProsBenefits and pay are competitive.

ConsUpper management does not seem to know or care what is going on for the average employee/manager.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet involved more with what is really going on and listen to what is being said. Culture and values need to be consistent.

Very limited career opportunities

Relationship Banker (Current Employee)
Knoxville, TN

I have been working at BB&T full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe hours are bankers hours. The 401K plan matches 6 percent and the attendance policy is very lax.

ConsNo upward movement. Very little opportunity for advancement. Raises are 1 to 2 percent annually. Too much emphasis on the numbers.

Advice to Senior ManagementRealize that your employees have a lot of influence with clients. People do not want to bank where employees are unhappy. Start promoting from within.

Not a lot of professional growth

Financial Center Leader II (Current Employee)
Raleigh, NC

I have been working at BB&T full-time for more than 5 years

Proswork/life balance; little travel (could be a con); flexibility in schedule; stable employment; great benefits for senior leadership

Conslittle potential for career growth; pay is below average; benefits are average for untenured employees

Advice to Senior Managementcross-train employees from retail to commercial for more career potential; invest in technology and allow more flexible ways to get work done (i.e., working remotely, more automation, continuing education); too much redundancy throughout the network - lots of time killers.
