An old school company that is unwilling and unable to change.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Raleigh, NC

ProsThe pay was decent and my co-workers created a good environment.
As with all things, it depends on your manager and their manager (that's the secret) make sure you interview with both and grill them. If you're at the interview they want you... now just make sure you want them too!

Cons"But we've always done it this way" is a motto of many banks, but executive leadership that has been with the company their entire career make this a top down culture that doesn't understand or embrace change and technology.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou think your competition is mid-size banks like Nations, but it is any bank that has a branch or an ATM near yours. Bank of America with their amazing ebanking and cutting edge ATMs is your competition. Be careful BB&T... the baby boomers will die some day and then who will be your market?

Not a bad company to work for (collections department)

    Collections Representative I (Current Employee)

ProsThe health benefits, 401k, and FSA are great. The pay is fair enough.

ConsThe job in and of itself by nature (collections) is stressful. This is not helped by the fact that the company has made some major blunders in the last year and not handled transitions well.

Advice to Senior ManagementTest your systems prior to a launch. The jobs that are handed to us in collections is difficult enough, but when we have no conception of what is going on it only makes it more so. We all have a job to do, we all want to do it well, but then you are trying to take on a big corporate positioning in the market and don't have the infrastructure to support it, you are setting us all up for failure in addition to your unrealistically goal settings. Upon first coming to work for BBT, I personally loved it, and for someone that is desperate for health care, I'd recommend you.

ProsThe benefits at BB&T are great. 6% 401K matching and up to 40 days off for sick time plus vacation.

ConsThey are confused about what to focus on and have created multiple reports for everything. No time to actually work.

It is a bank job--no better or worse than any other bank job

    Banker (Former Employee) Dallas, TX

    ProsGood work/life balance
    Nice compensation package
I feel secure working in a branch
Sr. Management all seem to be good, decent people

ConsIt is a Boy's Club, and there are definite cliques
Nepotism is a major problem in this market
The promotion structure has more to do with who you know, than how you perform
Banking partners (such as merchant, treasury, etc) are overloaded to the point that they cannot work the referrals branches are required to send, and this leads to great frustration for everyone
Staffing is skeletal, and branch staff frequently work overtime without showing it--senior management knows this and has spoken openly about it being appreciated

Advice to Senior ManagementStructure staffing to support sales goals, and state laws.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
