    Pros

Great global opportunities. Above average pay and benefits.

    Cons

With great pay comes expectations to work more hours. Job performance process does not reward individual high achievers but is an average for team and department. Mining operations tend to be micro managers. Turnover is low and may result in stagnant growth opportunities for new employees.

    Advice to Management

Create a better work environment by allowing employees to be creative and more flexibility to do their jobs. Need to implement flextime at mining operations.

    Pros

Good benefits - top class technical staff - very strong charter -

    Cons

Sometimes direction is not clear from senior leadership- front line management is not involved in decisions which bring massive changes and extra work for technical staff resulting in a top down approach which no one like-- if people cannot understand initiatives how will they engage ..

    Advice to Management

Sr management need to implement the engagement culture CEO to remove the fear element so that technical staff can start engaging - outsourcing crucial tasks and depending on third parties for every single thing from strategy to execution is not helping any one - we have some of the best technical staff that are put into repetitive routines instead on challenging projects --if we don't want to use their skill sets for the success of BHPB why hire in the first place ?

    Pros

I was there for IM Summer Intern. I would say great company to work with. This was my first internship and I was scared about my performance, but I was around with the good team. They all are super helpful, learned great things while working there. I would not be what I am now if I was not there.

    Cons

The only thing I would say that my mentor is in the other building than me. He's one of the senior manager so he's busy most of the time, sometime it's really hard to catch him up to review my assignments/question.

    Advice to Management

I would definitely say that reconsider your mentor plan. If intern around with mentor it will help them to perform well within the assigned time period.

    Pros

Good salary! In general the company is well organized. The company is international. The are in production of many commodities such as coal, oil, copper, and so on.

    Cons

middle management sucks. I would like to also put emphasis on career advancement. Career advancement is very difficult because it is a big company. Being an employee in a big company requires a lot of effort to advance in your career.

    Advice to Management

improvement of middle management. You will see a lot of people complaining about this middle management. there is a reason to that.

    Pros

Great pay and benefits- unlimited sick days, free health care, 9/80 every other Friday off. If you're just looking for a nice paycheck you'll love it.

    Cons

Long term outlook for the business isn't good. Too many processes. Systems get in the way of accomplishing meaningful work. Too much change for the sake of change. NO RAISES, just COL. HR arrogance. Deadbeat employees not held accountable.

    Advice to Management

Improvements are great but too many changes keep employees unsettled and unsure of what's coming next. Walk the Talk - reward hard workers and eliminate those that don't. This isn't Socialism and hurts morale for the high performing workers.

    Pros

Solid salary, bonus (20-30% by level), 401k (14.5% match). Great cafeteria that's subsidized at $2/day. Fantastic Christmas party. Organization is very flat. High exposure to senior and c-level management. I found the quality of fellow analysts to be very high.

    Cons

Awful middle management within finance. A house cleaning at this level is sorely needed. Management doesn't listen to feedback particularly related to work load. Our team has been cut a lot the past 2 years while work requirements have increased. Mixed signals are given on career path. Systems are pretty awful as they've forced petroleum to match mining which allows little to no flexibility in designing reporting that works well. It takes huge amounts of systems time to get back the data you need. Title system is very strange and reflects Australian naming conventions.

    Advice to Management

360 reviews could help show senior management the real weak links in their lower tiers. Stop ignoring the jerks and takers. It's why your good people leave.

    Pros

Great benefits and good group of people to work with.

    Cons

Changes in procedures happen all too frequently. Computer systems go down often and outages are a regular issue.

    Advice to Management

Have more in-house computer techs and less outsourcing of network support.
