    Excellent People to Work With

    Technical Assistant (Current Employee)
    Victoria, TX

ProsEveryone here will talk about how much they enjoy BHP as a company, their co-workers, and office environment. They promote mainly from within, and they really take stock in how you are as a worker, and how much you contribute. Time off is extremely easy with the location I'm at, though I've heard it's different at corporate. I love my boss and the other people I work directly for.

ConsThe outsourced third-party service desk. It's painful.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm not sure about the rest of you, but my boss, you keep on keeping on!

    Alright....

    Engineer (Former Employee)
    Tulsa, OK

Prosgreat training and structured pay. BHP greatly focused on training for all individuals, whether you were an admin assistant or a Sr. manager/VP. pay follows suit and they try to be in the top 75% of pay between other companies or similar and smaller size. This is benficial to the employees. Cafeteria plan has excellent food and is very cheap. retirement benefits are plush and worth sticking around for. Good company for sure

Consno advancement, too many processes. The upper management lacked direction and understanding of anything shale, their experience was strickly offshore, this led to many misguided directions within upper management. The company wasnt doing too well with their newly acquired shale assets. They were too many processes and too conservative. cost them a ton of money and made many wells unprofitable.

Advice to Senior Managementoffshore isnt everything

Great place to work, changing culture with new management.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsGood pay and benefits, career progression, travel etc. Good career paths in place for most disciplines.

ConsSometimes long hours and tough expectations that can impact personal life, although culture does seem to be changing some with new management. Lots of processes in place that dont appear very effective, but again there is evidence of this changing.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue with efforts to change the culture, it is making a difference.

Current employee and have been here for 1 year

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsAbove average compensation/benefits compared to other Oil and Gas companies. Excellent bonus structure. Company seems to be very employee focused with a goal of attracting and keeping top talent. The cafeteria and $2 lunch are awesome!

ConsSeem to be experiencing some growing pains. The shale division was formed basically from acquiring Petrohawk as well as a Chesapeake field. Transition and development of processes is ongoing. Technology and tools to do your job seem to be lagging behind the times and other companies. Getting software to do your job is a nightmare since it has to go through several layers to be allowed on your machine.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to employees and keep them informed of why they are being asked to do something. Need an upgrade on personal computers and software.

Fair company that shouldn't have left town

    Coordinator (Current Employee)
    Tulsa, OK

ProsExcellent benefits and fair wages. Offices were some of the best in town.

ConsHive mentality, closed all satellite offices that were acquired from another company acquisition, shipped all the jobs to Houston to a single headquarters.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink twice next time about consolidating and centralizing when you have excellent skilled workers who will not move to another city. We live in a modern world where people can work from anywhere and still do an excellent job.

A great company with positive values.

    Finance Manager (Current Employee)
    Houston, TX

ProsNice office location and good people to work with. Lots of growth and job opportunities. Company appears to be very employee focused.

ConsTo much process and sometimes this makes it difficult to do our jobs. To many system changes and past senior leadership was a con. This seems to be changing.

Diverse and dynamic with increasing position in US onshore shale complementing its deep water E&P operations globally.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCareer development. Exposure to onshore and offshore E&P industry, and potentially to other BHPBILLITON businesses globally.

ConsIncreasingly process driven which can be frustratingly slow.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild greater collaboration both within and out with the business.
