Good company, crazy sales goals for bankers. Upper management needs to be more realistic.

Personal Banker (Current Employee) Lombard, IL

ProsGreat company, well structured with great benefits. Management seems to have the employees benefits in mind when doing things. Treat you like a person and not a number as long as you are doing your job.

ConsThey try to fit 15 lbs of sand in a 10 lb bag. Call nights suck, you have them at least once a week. Reminds me of the movie office space.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake your sales goals more realistic.

    Great place to work

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWork with great people and on exciting projects as the bank develops its institutional asset management business.

ConsAs a large company it is sometimes slow to adopt newer technologies that would make completing one's job more efficient.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more in new technologies.

    Good place to work

Senior Marketing Manager (Current Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsInvolved in the community. Trying to innovate and "get with the times" though they are playing catch-up.

ConsTechnology is sub-par. A lot of red tape and bureaucracy.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the technology and get a consultant to come in and rework the internal processes. The process work that has been done is siloed and doesn't go far enough.

ProsThey are very organized, well marketed and have a robust product offering. They understand what works and are willing to build on it

ConsAudit and Legal rule the roost. They almost trip on themselves and getting anything done requires too much red tape.

    Great company, big challenges

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsBMO is committed to diversity, great customer experience, and fairness to employees. There is tremendous opportunity for advancement at more junior levels in both the US and Canada.

ConsMore and more decision making is being done in Toronto, leaving those in the US with little chance to impact the company. Decision making is frustratingly slow and prone to reversal if full concensus can't be obtained. Very little recognition of the competitive nature of the US market; BMO only sees the other Canadian banks as competitors, and those banks cooperate more than compete. Top US employees have limited career advancement opportunities unless they move to Toronto.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs BMO continues to expand in the US more decisions will need to be delegated to those who run that market. Canadian banking is not like US banking, and BMO must learn that lesson soon to succeed. Speed and conviction will be important to BMOs future. BMO can't please everyone and must make hard choices about what is most important- both internally and externally.

Great company that allows you to balance work and life.

Senior Applications Software Developer (Current Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsGood compensation package and a lot of opportunities to learn. Managers encourage you to learn. Stability and job security, most of the people I met have been working for BMO for long time.

ConsSalary is lower than other company in the same sector for some positions.

Advice to Senior ManagementSalary compensation needs to be revised.
