I worked at BNP Paribas as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

great benefits, and a lot of vacation (9 months in France) so work-life balance is great too.

    Cons

The initial salary is good when you join the firm, but then evolution is very limited.
Paris centric organization with very slow administrative processes

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage employee to be more pro-active and give them opportunity to be creative, and
    with that will come efficiency.

I worked at BNP Paribas full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Balance work/personal life, friendly atmosphere most of the tilme

    Cons

Salary and fake international mobility since you need to resign before joining the destination organization, although part of the same Group. Unbelievable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Align your salaries and measure reached objectives with associated incentives. You can do more or less, same treatment. Don't lie on international mobility or opportunities.

I worked at BNP Paribas as an intern

    Pros

Salary for Interns are generally high, 9 to 5 job, flexible working hours, relaxed work environment. Lot of After work fun activities organised by Interns.

    Cons

Lack of International mindset, French language is mandatory to work, more emphasis on Intern-personal communication & relationship with managers, Dirty politics.
If you are an aspiring manager with no skills and lots of patience, this company will serve your needs. Caution: Installing a software/IDE/Version control in your system can take up to 6 weeks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to manage software developers.

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Very solid technical skills thoughout the business lines, very decent employers froma social perspective with better than average benefits

    Cons

Super bureaucratic, poor management, zero capacity to think outside of the box

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Renew management, stop promoting the same type of people over and over again...not enough diversity at the top promotes an unpleasant "lets do what we have always done " type of culture. very boring after a couple years

I have been working at BNP Paribas as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Big bank with wide resources and support teams, very good exposure at entry level in terms of work done and different teams and departments.

    Cons

Its very bureaucratic where things move very slowly which can get very frustrating at times. Human resources are too helpful in terms of employee development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do away with too much hierarchy and invest time and resources in employee development.

I have been working at BNP Paribas full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

In my experience (structured finance), staff quality of the european offices is very good, working atmosphere is fairly friendly and working hours are comparable to other BB Investment Banks. Leading position in Europe makes for interesting projects and A-list clients.
Juniors are usually quickly involved in all aspects of transactions making a great place to learn.

    Cons

BNP Paribas' compensation packages are generally below market for junior and mid-level positions.
Being a very large organization internal processes are fairly cumbersome and bureaucratic.
Internal mobility level is low and career path can be slow (although with the after effects of the financial crisis it is probably true of many large corporate/investments banks.
Management qualities are not really valued, resulting in average (sometimes poor) mid-level management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Performance evaluation and promotions should better account for management abilities, 180° evaluation would greatly benefit the organization
Increase internal mobility to reduce turnover and align salaries with market benchmarks.
