I have been working at BNSF Railway

    Pros

Money, time off (I'm "allowed" more time off here than in any of my previous jobs), benefits, and (most) of the people. The work/life balance is what you make of it. Prioritize time off if you have a family and other activities

    Cons

On call, odd hours, some trainmasters/management, some of the people you work with

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to get valid claims paid easier, focus attention (ops tests, etc) more on those with bad attitudes and poor work ethic than those with good attitudes and good work ethic. This would begin to foster a new generation of attitudes and perceptions of management

I have been working at BNSF Railway (more than a year)

    Pros

The work-life balance is amazing within our department. Family is a priority for our managers and they show it by allowing people to have a flexible schedule. Very stable and reliable career path with little to no chance of being terminated unless you completely have no drive to achieve results. Well-structured plan for benefits and retirement.

    Cons

Transition into newer technologies takes a bit longer as the company relies heavily on its older, more experienced workforce to maintain the reliability. The changes are difficult to overcome as differences in mindset are visible between the corporate and union mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Even within the exempt employees, there is a separation of how the company operates. Give the corporate employees exposure to the operations of the company so that future development is in line with both perspectives.
