    Worst company on Wall Street

    Compliance Professional (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsSalary. They paid me a ton of money to recruit me to work there.

ConsCulture. The worst political infighting I've ever experienced in my 18 years career on Wall Street. It is also the most bureaucratic firm I've encountered.

Advice to Senior ManagementWell, since old management is dropping like flies, they are on the right track.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Lots of backstabbing and scheming just to step on each other to get ahead.

    Applications Support Analyst (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsLots of people with lots of money gives you a sense of being important (even though you're not). Bathroom stalls are amazing with thick wooden dividers from floor to ceiling.

ConsVery pretentious. Long hours. Unless you're on top, you're just a b*tch. The sooner you realize it, the sooner you can move on to somewhere else and be happy.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't belittle people.

    Absolutely terrible place!

Operations Analyst - Middle Office (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsBig name with good benefits

ConsArrogant and selfish management, incompetent and useless managers and terrible work environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementLISTEN TO YOUR EMPLOYEES! I used to have a manager at Barclays, who had been there for 7 years - barely came to work, barely did any work and openly showed favoritism! We complained for years but her manager loved her, so they turned a blind eye. LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES ARE SAYING AND NOT WHAT YOU THINK YOU WANT TO HEAR!!!

    Constant over-hring and then layoffs...

    Vice President (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsWell... Good name on your resume. Smart and agressive people. Lots of stuff to learn. You can get all of these from another investment bank though.

ConsMiserable work environment with NO bonus... Never ever trust whatever they told you during your interview or negotiation. None is true.

Advice to Senior ManagementHonesty is the best policy.

Pays 30% below street for median bucket

    Investment Banking Associate (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe people are Barclays are typically very nice.

ConsThe new CEO is ruining the company (at least Barclays America).

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease stop trying to run Barclays like it's solely a commercial bank.

The worst company to work for

    Project Manager (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsNone that i can think of

ConsNo meritocracy, weak management (very weak), backstabbing culture that is encouraged, crappy systems and processes that no one is interested to change, use your brains to ship all jobs overseas

Advice to Senior ManagementFire all managers and rehire the one that left

    A lot of favoritism
    No leadership

    Lack of Leadership and Direction.

    Director (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsOnce had a brand name before the acquiring Lehman .
    Benefits

ConsConstant layoffs and offshoring creating low moral and a political environment.
Forced ranking system that places hard working staff into "Does not Meet Objectives" categories to justify the offshore and staff reduction objectives.

    Limited to no advancement opportunities
Senior management changes. ie. 6 management changes in 4 years.
Layoffs managed very poorly and people treated very poorly during the exiting process.

Quality staff leave once they get settled seeing the lack of advancement, constant reduction in compensation, long hours and highly political environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the constant staff reductions so the support teams can focus on business development.
Accept that their offshore strategy is not working.
IT Senior Management very arrogant and not tuned in to what is actually going on in the day to day.
Large pay spread from the "in crowd" of MD's and Directors to the VPs & AVPs

No strategy: hire and fire, reactive fire drills and completely corrupt promotion process

    Vice President (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsVery little positivity on the horizon as no plans are made clear to the teams

ConsPlans continuously changing meaning time wasted hiring and firing
Repeated firedrills mean never able to work on improvement or strategic initiatives
Never able to right size teams meaning key man risk and overwork of good people
No bonuses even for high performers
Promotion is incredibly unjust and dependent on management whims
Extremely long hours and weekends, inappropriate staffing mean working 12-14 hours to cover the clock between regions
Completely ineffective risk assessment frameworks mean control gaps everywhere
Integrity doesnt exist, lack of funding means service and excellence are an after thought. There is no stewardship as there is a fixation on band aid solutions

Advice to Senior ManagementMake a 2 or 3 year strategy and stick to it
Stop wasting time with twice yearly staff reductions meaning continous hiring
Base promotion on ranking in the appraisals and feedback rather than dinging people from the process
Stop surrounding yourselves with yes men who tell you what you want to hear
Try a convincing staff retention process to ease strain on key individuals
Communicate more effectively the plans... the teams have waited a year under the new CIO and are still none the wiser what the plans and strategy are
    How about living those values?

    Micro-management

    Vice President (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsSome smart people. Initiation of a mentoring program has been good, but growth can be difficult.

ConsYou will be micro-managed and misled about your compensation. The company, especially in Finance is way too top heavy. Directors dont have a clue about the mis-management that is going on a level or 2 below them

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to care about your people and dont stare at the clocks

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
