    Future stability is a question

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe work is good. The middle mangers are doing there best to handle the current situation from senior management. My colleagues are great people to work with.

ConsThere are rumors of layoffs. Moral is low because for a long time, the future stability of our jobs is a question.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork harder to be devoted to all your employees and clear communication is lacking.

It's a good place to work if you don't mind a slow pace

Assistant Vice President IT (Current Employee)
    Jersey City, NJ

ProsStable position, boss is understanding and flexible regarding time off. Vacation is encouraged and there is good morale within my team. Sharp people in my division.

ConsThings move quite slowly. Successful initiatives require political connections more so than business cases. Operations are run out of the UK and you feel it here in the US. Limited career mobility upward with a "curve" grading system for reviews.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management is great and I feel strongly about their capabilities. The trouble comes with middle management and cultural attitudes that seem to favor a "can't do" attitude. A lot of teams prefer to not "rock the boat" and that culture needs to change. We need to seek solutions not present problems.

Good place to work however off late the focus has been setting up low cost centers and regulatory work.

    Rate IT (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

Pros* Global workforce - great in terms of being able to experience working in different geographic locations worldwide
    * One of the strong global investment banking players
    * Bank wide focus on doing the right thing

Cons* Focus on establishing low cost centers, there by fragmenting teams.
    * Many projects off late are related to regulatory reform - assuming this is the case with most of the banks.

Advice to Senior Management* Focus on low cost center is overdone
    * People are expected to do more with less, something that can't be reasonably expected given the clamp down on compensation

    Work environment

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsVery quiet, easy commute, great benefits.

ConsNo options for upward mobility. A lot of lateral movement. Extremely sexually biased against men.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a career track or plan for all employees who want it. Talented people are being held in their positions and not being allowed the chance to grow.

Barclays is taking steps in the right direction, but the view from inside is a little less rosey.

    Compliance Analyst (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsMany educational resources and opportunities. Making a concerted effort to turnaround its image and values, and is ousting employees who aren't on board.

    Consterribly bureaucratic and political still.
