I worked at Barclays Investment full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lower hierarchy One of the better banks for work-life balance Newer technology in some areas. Lehman/BarCap consolidation done and dusted.

    Cons

Cost-cutting beginning to make life difficult; less interesting projects: more compliance and clearing now (same everywhere probably). Old dingy work conditions for IT

I worked at Barclays Investment (Less than a year)

    Pros

*Smart people for the most part *Competitive pay

    Cons

*Difficult to get top PE/HF offers because BarCap isn't looked at as a peer to Goldman or MS, unless you're at one of BarCap's top groups

    Advice to Management

Invest in yourselves as managers. Learn how to manage people. Don't let your finance experience be the sole qualifier for you to act as Vice President or Managing Director.

I have been working at Barclays Investment full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ability to Work From Home Engage in several extracurricular groups within firm Challenging work Employees willing to help others Resume builder

    Cons

Too many changes and they happen too fast. Consistently changing Work/Life Balance for those who are striving for excellence Always on hiring freeze Always looking to reduce headcount Too many employees reporting to management they've never met Unorganized reporting lines Ability to navigate firm is challenging Does not pay for license Does not pay for MBA Upper mangement does not know how to keep things private.

    Advice to Management

This firm can be amazing but you have leaders in roles that do not follow the values the firm is asking its employees to stand by. Constant changes makes us believe no one knows the direction of the firm.

I worked at Barclays Investment (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent work-life balance, great infrastructure, good mix of people working positively together, great benefits and unlimited sick days that people don't take advantage of, and the executives are very generous around the holidays...

    Cons

Sometimes you can get a tough floor administrator or HR representative.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the excellent work!

    Cons

There was no reward for working harder. I finished my 10 week project by week 7 and received the same offer as the person who didn't finish their project.

    Pros

Flexible and decent paying back office consultant positions, I found the employees there to be very friendly and helpful to inexperienced hires.

    Cons

Hours can be long but this should be expected in finance, technology was antiquated, and red tape abounds.
