I worked at Barclays full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

In Barclays New York, there are great networking events with WiN and WiT. Salaries are quite generous compared to competitors.

    Cons

Very weak management. Technology sector is collapsing. Projects constantly put on hold an moved to the UK. Benefits are lacking for such a big bank. Health insurance is Blue Cross Blue Shield which is not the best and not accepted everywhere. Business and Technology are laying off and displacing employees constantly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some experienced people who know how to do their job and can drive the company to success. If you want good US presence the make New York Barclays more robust or else close shop in the US. Barclays is ruining many careers.

    Pros

Excellent talent to work with and a vast array of products to sell. Working with management side by side truly helps get you involved in the banks plans as a whole and what direction they are going.

    Cons

The talent is all leaving, either voluntarily or being forced out and what is led i'm not sure will be a sustainable institution for very long.

    Pros

If you are a consultant, great place to work

    Cons

Terrible management. Unrealistic expectations for employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Of you rate employees on expectations, management should live up to those expectations themselves

I have been working at Barclays

    Pros

Still sizable but with all the talent going else where.
    Can't think of anything else...

    Cons

    Horrible communication by management.
CEO that has been put in by regulators in UK to do Lehman acquisition
Impossible to get promoted these days
Other banks will eat BCS lunch

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what is right for the firm.
Grow some kahunas and stand up to overreaching regulators, remember Barclays didn't need a bailout.

  9.

    Pros

Can provide a decent (not great) learning platform

    Cons

incumbent people, politics, blatant disregard of anyone below management and low pay despite tough working conditions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please try to be more aware of how things are managed and employees paid below the MD level

I have been working at Barclays full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great research - name recognition...that's about it. It's very difficult to think of any other pros, honestly. People seem to be defecting left & right.

    Cons

cut-throat culture; local Managing Director has a poor reputation in the industry and creates a challenging & hostile work environment; rather than fostering a team environment, mentorship and advocacy among subordinates and across business lines. It's a real morale killer. Sr. Mngmt pushes reps to sell proprietary structured products & ETNs, even if not suitable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

don't hire people without proper due diligence to avoid bringing on-board another Firm's "throw-away"
