Limited career mobility or career progression, day to day job can be bureaucratic. No real leadership from senior managers in Risk.

    Advice to Management

    Invest in people management.

    Pros

Professional people with great experience that you can learn from if you position yourself correctly. Wide array of people from various backgrounds.

    Cons

Lack of meritocracy is pretty obvious, nepotism is the name of the game. easy to see that projects are rushed without truly thinking of where the platform/firm should be in 5 years. Turnover is something on another level.

    Advice to Management

Management should be completely removed. It seems that the firm is actually in the process of doing this...Antony Jenkins has recently been removed by unanimous decision by the board. I would assume more heads will be rolling

    Pros

Only pro I have is that you will meet and work with great people some of which you will grow great friendships with

    Cons

Long hours and NEVER compensated for it. Horrible management . Constant turnover, very bad moral . Never ending change in the organization as well as cost cutting.

    Pros

    Cutting edge for project mgmt.

    Cons

Backstabbing blame culture exists throughout all areas- not a nice environment to work in .

    Advice to Management

Cultural change from exec still needs to filter down.

    Pros

Quick moving Forward thinking Great facilities (some) great people Intelligence of senior leaders Gives you great experience to get a better job

    Cons

No work life balance Poor pay in the market place Good performance rewarded with more work Hugely political - clear lines of opposing individuals Some senior leaders are aggressive and rude in their approach (think nothing of calling you at 7am to shout) Don't care about staff as individuals

    Advice to Management

Start thinking beyond hitting targets and actually think about what makes people tick. Embrace new people as well as those you've known for years.

    Pros

My manager was nice and knowledgeable ...if you stayed past 9pm, you received a company paid meal and a taxi home

    Cons

No work life balance.....paid about $15k below market, no bonuses for analyst, management had no idea how to run the business, rough culture and people to deal with

    Advice to Management

Focus on talent, make better business decisions, create a better culture

    Pros

Large bank with opportunities across almost all banking disciplines i.e Investment, Corporate, Wealth, Consumer, Cards etc Attempts to be progressive Global footprint

    Cons

Confused culture Poor HR practices some of them downright vindictive Highly fragmented and tribal organisation incoherent strategy lax approach towards employee care Focus is on meeting targets irrespective of whether they make a difference or not Oft used/abused political lines are 1. "it increases the operational risk" - without having to justify or explain how 2. "this is not as per values" - which generally shuts up any dissenters as the next step is probably a disciplinary

    Advice to Management

You are haemorrhaging talent that can actually help you transform the bank They are leaving due to high level of tribal politics, insensitive employee engagement Your culture which started off quite well has become a joke as HR management flaunt it with no regard to implications The last one is the biggest cause of bankers still being vilified in the society at large

    Pros

Money is very good, cannot think of anything else sorry

    Cons

Very very unethical business, management turn a blind eye to irregularities, they prefer to bury things under red tap. If you raise these issues as a whistle blower you get treated as a criminal. Best avoid and work for another investment bank or tech firm. Real shame because they have a few good people, however the management team left over from Mr Diamond is still operating and the new board is no aware

    Advice to Management

Look at how many people are leaving the firm having only just joined, even your number 2 Mr Jenkins has given you his notice. Its not a nice place to work, people are not interested in transforming rather then continue to get bonus at the cost to staff, suppliers and customers. Worst company I have worked for.
