I worked at Barclays full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Adequate remuneration, excellent hygiene factors (offices), good training and good trainers and they did actually spend a lot of time on the "culture change"/"values" change.
I was also very impressed with the clarity of the organisational structure and responsibilities. I was always clear what to do and who to deliver results to and was confident when handing over to other team.

    Cons

Little or no opportunities outside of London (1CP), average bonus payments (as % of base).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't worry so much about the media impression, continue to drive meritocracy and create more opportunity in regional hubs.

Real progression opportunities and great way to start a career!
If it hadn't been for me starting at the bank 4 years ago I wouldn't be where I am today (Mortgage consultant)

    Cons

Challenging but very worthwhile, depending on your role some more training would be useful...
Target driven environment has been disposed of which is a bit of a shame, now the targets are on the backburner....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that you started somewhere once and sometimes someone not hitting target isn't their fault.

I have been working at Barclays full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Phenomenal Positive Change that will change the face of UK Retail Banking is taking place within Barclays Bank and it is definitely on the right track to become the most customer focused high street bank with the community spirit at its heart. Anthony Jenkins' vision for the brand is the right vision and should be mirrored by the rest of the high street banks.

    Cons

I only wish some of the changes they are implementing within retail banking were implemented long before the recent crisis within the British banking system.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with the progressive change whilst acknowledging and rewarding the genuinely customer focused contribution made by staff within the branch network.
