    I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time

    Pros

I was retained by B+L after they acquired ISTA Pharmaceuticals giving them a stellar and refreshed portfolio to sell.

    Cons

I didn't experience any cons. However, I made a change and left B+L after a few months.

    Advice to Management

I have not advice for management. I had a great district manager when joining B+L who was supportive and eager to succeed.

I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company had a lot of momentum to make the place a great place to work. Culture and employees were receptive to new ideas and very focused on being the best at their disciplines.

    Cons

In finance, many legacy processes/practices that remained in place because "that's the way it has always been done". This presented challenges as a new employee, especially one from a younger generation.

    Advice to Management

To Valeant, instead of letting go everyone in finance days after the acquisition closed, take the time to understand what everyone does. This could have avoided an interruption during the transition and possibly you could have realized you needed to retain some employees in finance.

I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

At B&L we were building a culture committed to doing what is right, always! Pay and benefits were great! Perks were very good, between flexible schedules, unsurpassed 401K; rewards for efforts. Management tried to listen to people on the front lines. B&L was great, would do it again! Once Valeant took over things changed - see cons below.

    Cons

Now that Valeant has taken over, everything has gone down the tubes. Valeant does not have the same commitments as Bausch. They do not care about their employees - only the bottom line. Everything we heard about what Valeant did to other buyouts came true! They are committed to destroying all central services, and only support manufacturing and sales! Their corporate offices reflect this - you will have VPs running around looking for a form, because they have let all of the administrative assistants go! The CEO is only working with Wall St., not the company!

    Advice to Management

Having high paid people running around doing things that administrative assistants used to do, does not make sense! The paradigm is destined to fail! Commitment to only Wall St is wrong thinking. Your commitment should be to your patients/customers - everything else including quality and revenue will follow!

I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

B&L supported my pursuit of knowledge, both within the company and by tuition reimbursement for my formal education. I had many opportunities and was able to learn many facets of the business. They employed a lot of good people to create great teams and departments.

    Cons

Focused on technical jobs rather than administrative related to ease of promotions. Purchased by Valeant and management is changing and many jobs are being eliminated. May not be the same company in the near future.

    Pros

Bausch + Lomb had a strong work environment, good career opportunities, and great people. It offered a lot and had a great heritage in the ophthalmics industry.

    Cons

It tended to operate in a lean fashion, creating a challenge to maintain an appropriate work/life balance. There was a tendency to create too many systems.
