I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Prior to the Valeant acquisition, Bausch + Lomb was a great company. Technologically advanced products, excellent R&D scientists, ethical values, Investments in their employees and skilled leadership and management. Ratings are based on the true and 'original' B+L culture.

    Cons

Following the acquisition, none of the above mattered.

I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefit and Salaries were above the norm. There was a balance between work and home life. Opportunities were given to those who excel. B+L was very generous in giving back to the community.

    Cons

Leaders were not always open about what was happening with the company in regards to the sale or going public.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company has been sold and new management is now taking over.

I have been working at Bausch & Lomb full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I believe Bausch & Lomb treats it's employees fair and with respect. The benefits are excellent and one of the best bonus compensation plans I've ever received.

    Cons

Like with many company's, when acquisitions are made, divisions are cut and employee layoffs occur. It is unfortunate because a lot of good employees are let go.

I worked at Bausch & Lomb as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

It is a fantastic atmosphere! The people are truly willing to help you out in any way possible. The work that I did required me to critically think and I got to make most of my own decisions and do things how I wanted to do them. I would meet with my Manager weekly to update him to make sure I was on the right track. They also have a full cafeteria for lunches and host events for employees!

    Cons

Once you are in a division within the company, it appears to be difficult to move around to other divisions unless you really push for it. You will typically be just with your division, which can be a fairly large amount of people, but the opportunity to meet other people from different divisions didn't seem very high to me. I did get to meet a few people from other areas of the company, but I did that with m own initiative, not through any company sanctioned event.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your employees the best and most updated equipment that you can get! Try to create a standard with this equipment too. For example, everyone within Finance and Procurement should be using Excel 2010 and should get a training seminar or something in it to help them out, or at least some useful online material to help them learn it.

I have been working at Bausch & Lomb

    Pros

The outlook for this company is nothing but fantastic! Awesome pipeline of product launches in all 3 business units. There has been significant change but the corner is turning. Excitement is building and leadership is insistent on hiring top talent. Vision Care Sales force is energized!

    Cons

There are employees within the Rochester site that live for the "old days" which are not the same as today. They do not see the positives and the new competitive world we are in. These folks wallow in the past. They need to look at the world outside of B+L and realize how good they have it. The grass is NOT always greener on the other side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it up. Your core strategies and your focus on your people is commendable! Every day I am impressed with strategies at the top about people, satisfaction, talent acquisition, etc. Stay the course!

I worked at Bausch & Lomb full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There was a great management team with a range of complimentary skills and talents. It was a shame that it was closed for reasons other than local performance.

    Cons

Not all parts of Bausch were as good as the Scottish Operation. The Scottish plant was world class and had by far the best performance in the group.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should never have closed it down. Have you managed to make another lens for under 10c yet?
