I worked at Bazaarvoice full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to get good things done but you may have to chase after things as the company has grown over the last few years. Has one of the best data assets on the planet that is ready for the picking. Really tough engineering challenges that will help you grow and press you. Free food 3 days a week and plenty of beer. Management is in engineering is still very good. One of the best company cultures in town.

    Cons

Lots of change recently (especially over the last year). Not enough project managers for the work that needs to be done (this is being worked on however). No big wins recently. Power reviews divestiture still looms a bit. Loss of some really great engineers recently (still plenty around though).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your people and get a better understanding of what the day to day challenges are. Lock down a long term strategy/vision.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are still good - we've lost some of our perks (annual education $$), but overall we still have it pretty good. Free massages, "unlimited" vacation (now with guidelines), flexible schedules, decent maternity leave, etc. Most wouldn't want to admit it, but we also get paid pretty nicely considering how hard we work. Not that we don't work hard - but typically the office is pretty empty by 5 or 5:30. People aren't, for the most part, putting in long hours (some departments may differ but I feel like this is the norm), even at the end of the quarter. Overall, you can get paid a good salary and still only work 40 hours (or sometimes less!) a week. Executive leadership is decent. The new-ish CEO Gene has helped get people (a little) excited again and he's a good leader. The rest of the executive team is so-so. There are still grassroots things that take place like the B@BV speaker series, where different woman leaders are brought in to speak to anyone who wants to listen.

    Cons

The culture isn't what is used to be, but that's probably natural considering the size of the company, the IPO, etc. In general though, company and team meetings are not exciting or unusual. It's the same big-company-corporate type thing. There aren't anymore stunts/funny things/people getting crazy in the company meetings. We have other big company challenges like hiring freezes, lay offs, and travel/entertainment budget cuts that just aren't fun. Yes, they are reality for a larger company, but not much is done to make these things easier. For example, back in the old days if a team was going to be eliminated other positions were found for all of its team members so that they didn't have to leave Bazaarvoice.... no longer the case. Snacks and other freebies have declined as well. What's especially annoying is that "the second floor" (developers) get free lunch brought in several days a week, but the rest of the company isn't allowed to touch it. They get it just because they are in higher demand in the Austin job market, I guess. One big thing that varies by department is management and growth potential. There is little to no "mentorship". Promotions from within happen sometimes, but often don't. Hiring externally for managers/directors/executives is the norm. Still though, managers tend to be not that great. There is no real management or leadership training, so you could report to someone who is really great.... or who really sucks.

    Pros

Innovation, Authenticity, Respect, Generosity, Teamwork, Passion, Performance................. These are the BV beliefs. There is a sense of value in the way that everything gets done. A decent sized company with a start up mindset. From the weekly Global meetings, to the ping pong tournaments. Since I've worked with BV it has always been a place where the culture speaks for itself.

    Cons

It is a company in constant change so if you can't handle that, then this company probably isn't for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people/team, interesting projects, good work/life balance, fun team outings, excellent on pacing and training, very well-documented processes and procedures

I think this company is on a great path, but in its "awkward teenage" years. There are some growing pains, but will be an amazing company to work for in a year or two.

    Cons

This company is in transition from startup to mid-size company. It's awkward as there is this vibe of "business meets recess" for better and for worse. People complain about admin tasks that most project managers in other companies have to do. It can be loud in the office and distracting with people talking through cubes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make yourselves more accessible to all employees; need clearer communication of long-term vision for transition (the path is s good one, just do a better job of helping everyone see it in a believeable way) and help everyone see the stable path ahead

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The opportunity to expand the scope of your professional experience, work with sharp, motivated people and develop your career is broad. The new senior leadership team is experienced, open in their communication and clear in the short term goals that BV as a company needs to align around.

I was ready to leave BV a year ago, at a time of much upheaval, stress and uncertainty, but now am glad I waited to assess the new leadership. The work is challenging, but the team pulls together, is respectful and has fun on the way.

    Cons

If you are not OK with regular change and a fast paced environment then this is not for you. It's never boring.
There are still pockets within the company where the work is managed by smart people without the specific experience needed to help move BV toward best practices or ineffective managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The development and communication of long term plans will be key to employee commitment.
There are a couple of senior leaders who are not effective - addressing them would help issues of morale that exist in certain departments.

    Pros

Strong Leadership, Strong Culture, Strong PeopleOps team, Excellent PTO benefits. Better than average health benefits

    Cons

They make changes - then don't tend to wait to see the impact. Expect process and org changes to have an immediate and significant impact, where some changes take a while to see the upside. A lot of times, they will change direction before even having time to see the benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some better training for folks, but that is improving. Handle Change Management better

I have been working at Bazaarvoice full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You are not micro-managed, they allow you to "own" your position. The teams are smart, passionate, and collaborative. Management is finally where is needs to be, they have a long term vision. I am excited about the future of BV.

    Cons

Comp could be stronger, be sure you ask for what you need comp wise before you get in the door. It's hard to get a big increase once you are in. Benefits are great, unlimited pay vacation is great and benefits start right away, no waiting period.
