I have been working at Bechtel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Training opportunities as for as the eye can see. Bechtel is one of the few companies that gives you the opportunity to work in multiple functions such as business development, finance, project controls, procurement, IT, subcontracts, HR.

Pay is above average for most positions and increases drastically for the top performers who can manage the political dynamics of the company.

Work/life balance differs from project to project, but mine has been great over the last couple of years on my current assignment.

401k matching is the best I've seen in the country.

    Cons

Bechtel is a great organization, but it's not for everyone. Because it is large and global, it's easy to get lost.

Not all positions or people are created equally so the pay is on the low side for some.

The politics can get a bit extreme, but that exists in every company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better equip employees (young & old) with tools to navigate through this large company.

I have been working at Bechtel

    Pros

Strong commitment to "Better Place to Work" and employee engagement.

    Cons

Higher level managers spend too much time on decision making and performing tasks that should be performed at a lower level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time on leading, mentoring and supporting Leads and Supervisors.

I have been working at Bechtel full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Bechtel is the largest EPC company in the industry.
    Pros are:
    - Challenging projects
    - Safety minded company
    - Plenty of opportunity to move up in the company

    Cons

Right now the majority of the work is in the Government arm of the company. It's work, but you have to get used to plenty of red tape and things taking two to three times as long as commercial work.

I have been working at Bechtel full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Strive for quality, work life balance and a true desire to be one of the top 100 Companies to work for

    Cons

The main con is nepotism. There is a lack of clear communication and negotiation between functions. There appears to be a glass ceiling when it comes to change and support for change throughout the "old school" sector of management. There is an effort to change this but it is so embedded in the fabric of management it will take time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support Bechtel values through action. Take a chance and step out, support the proven changes that increase productivity, cost reduction and quality. There are a lot of smart people in your departments that have the knowledge and desire needed to improve the current processes but allowing fear of change, rocking the boat a bit or maybe just breaking away from the "way it has always been done" takes vision and faith. If it is inline with Bechtel's vision for quality, it is worth the risk.
