Former Employee – worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for less than a year
Pros – Typically, part-time associates would work 15-20 hours in this location; in this position, one worked 25 hours steadily which allowed for a good work/life balance and to personally continue a job search for full-time work.
Cons – Receiving was heavily micromanaged in this location, to the extent of having to drop primary tasks for certain managers and later be disciplined by others for not getting work done. Managers talked down to employees and seldom considered their prior experiences or education as the store has a somewhat high turnover rate. Very high to borderline undeliverable expectations for part-time work (5hr period) which was truly just opening boxes, pricetagging, and staging merchandise as three-to-four persons were expected to process hundreds of cartons of merchandise at two-minutes/carton, even if there were multiple smaller cartons inside. Employees were fearful and bitter of management and the store, and pretty stressed. It did not need to be driven by stress; however my experience at BBB was exactly that.
Advice to Senior Management – Breathe; invest in employees

Current Employee – been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Excellent compensation and a stable company
Cons – See pros....for this they expect everything from you. There is zero work life balance if you want to be successful there.
Advice to Senior Management – If anyone ever sat down and really did a time management study for everything they expect a store manager to complete in a day, they would be surprised to learn it takes 15+ hours at a minimum. Every concept that they put forth is in reality a great idea....if they would fund it properly. Not just, here's another great idea, lets implement it, but guess what, no additional hours and you need to figure it out.

Former Employee – worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for more than a year
Pros – You get a 20% discount... which is the same discount that everyone gets if they have a coupon. Impressing the ladies with your knowledge of housewares.
Cons – No career opportunities. No full-time positions available the entire 2 years I worked there. Barely above minimum wage.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for more than a year
Pros – Very decent pay, especially for part-time.
Some days you can work very little. Just chatting with customers selling product!
They make a very honest attempt to train you on product knowledge (it's hard they sell a lot of stuff),
Co-Workers are generally really cool, even some/most managers (there's always that one though :)
LOTS of incentives!!! Random items each month sold to employees for COST!! That's like 75% off.
Employee Appreciation nights, each employee walks with anywhere from $300-$1000 in free stuff that is donated by the companies/stores. Mostly products you sell but you can get a $400 blender, a $100 trash can, basically anything they sell. .
Cons – Terrible yearly raises, if any.
Management moves around a lot so it's hard to establish yourself and move up.
Having to stay until 12:30 when your scheduled off at 10:15 because there is a "corporate visit" the next day. And given NO extra break or meal.
Minimal Hours (20 or less) (newer rules). They would rather have 10 employees working 10 hours knowing nothing about the products than 5 employees working 20 hours knowing everything!!!
You have 10-15 managers at any one time, if only ONE doesn't like you they can and will make your life hell.
Not loyal at all to people who have been there a while. If anything they take advantage of your knowledge and skills and make you pick up the slack for others (without extra recognition).
VERY INCONSISTENT SCHEDULING...HARD TO MANAGE YOUR DAYS ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE TWO JOBS
Advice to Senior Management – RECOGNIZE YOUR EMPLOYEES WHO ACTUALLY HAVE PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE. Show that recognition. AND actually enforce that "promoting from within" rule or your turnover rate will go sky high as anyone who's been there for more than 6 months will quit!

Current Employee – been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – If you always show up on time, the job is yours to lose. You won't ever find your scheduled shift cut short. In every department, there is usually at least one associate or manager who has been around and can be very helpful while you are still getting a feel for the business. Learn from these people. If you have experience and what you think is a pretty good salary at your current retail job, BBB usually matches what you already make if they are interested in you (if this is you, apply to BBB right now!)
For those who know nothing about retail and don't have much of any product knowledge, this is a really good place to start. BBB has "University" style training where a team of 2-4 people schedule you for classes on different sections of your department and others. These trainings are followed up with a sellback where you pretend to sell a product you were given a class for (ex: pillows). Personally, I have always learned at least one or two things from every class that I have been given.
Cons – Career advancement is mostly based on who is most liked (favorites) by upper management and who you know rather than who may be best for the job. If you are not one of these people, expect to wait longer (years) for any promotion beyond full-time. There are always people coming in, and there is no concern about the lack of knowledge the new managers/associates have because the University training will give new hires the opportunity to learn more about the business.
BBB knows that although other retailers may pay more, the hours are low, so getting what you think is a fair raise for your level of productivity is going to be way less. As an associate, you might find yourself taking direction from a manager who makes it very plain that they don't care about the company, the business or the customers. Most of these managers have been hired from other companies instead of getting promoted from within and usually don't have much product and merchandising knowledge.
Advice to Senior Management – Besides theft, pretty much every section where there are low dollars than expected you'll find at least one manager and perhaps an associate who is really hurting the bottom line. It is really hard to be the one trying everyday while others are undermining your work. Please reevaluate how you address this.

Former Employee – worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Good Benefits Great pay friendly coworkers
Cons – Lack of communication. Job performance does not matter it's all about who likes you
Advice to Senior Management – Stop promoting lazy managers and promote the ones who actually do their job.

Former Employee – worked at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – 5 day work week, comp days, you definately get your time off. Salary was good
Cons – Upper management is inconsistant. Views/opinions change daily. You can be a great employee one day and be on the "hit" list the very next day. Opportunities are VERY limited.
Advice to Senior Management – Care about all of your employees, even the newest member of a store.

Current Employee – been working at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for less than a year
Pros – Awesome co-workers (mostly associates because were more down to earth :P )
such a substantial work environment that challenges your versatility on a daily basis. physically and mentally.
opportunity to work and develop relationships with customers
... im really trying to think of pros. im honestly trying very hard. its just so difficult when youre not happy.
Cons – Pay: expect way too much knowledge and work for way too little compensation and recognition
Treatment: treated like a kid who doesn't know what they're doing. I'm so afraid to mess up on something petty because i will get my hours cut. EVERYTIME i leave linens i get asked where I'm going immediately as i step out even if im escorting a customer or using the restroom or even if i just want to look at something because were slow that day. I want to work hard and learn new things and go far with this company but I just don't feel confident after the way they treat me :(
Its true that: department managers play favorites and affect others hours.
No versatility: associates are strictly confined to one department at my store and when they decide they want to put you somewhere else just because they like to delegate orders, you better know what youre doing even though you have no experience in that department and god forbid i can get those product classes they promised me... i know nothing about the products beyond what i experience first hand from looking stupid in front of a customer. -_- ... im not sure how to even work the pager on the phones and its simple stuff like that, that will make you feel stupid and expendable...
Advice to Senior Management – but i go into work each day with a brand new attitude and a new drive to work hard. i research my own product knowledge at home and i put my faith in the understanding of my coworkers when i mess up. i may seem like im full of complaints but im actually full of diligence. It gets exhausting but i do it with a smile because i trust that youre working hard to advance your own company :)
