Originally, the best company I've worked for in my extensive retail management career, but we are becoming jaded.

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

By far, the best thing has always been and will hopefully continue to be, the idea of practicing what they preach when it comes to customer service. So much of what we are trained to do comes as a bit of shock when we are actually expected and encouraged to service customers well 'Beyond' their expectations every day. This remains the best most valuable part of their culture and success.

    Cons

Especially in the small to medium-sized stores, the workload for management below store manager level is overwhelming and impossible to execute every day. Customer service is always first and most important, then you are left with a list that will only get accomplished on your own time. No personal/professional growth and development opportunities exist in this company. Anything of this nature you are interested in pursuing must be done outside of work. Numerous blackout periods when no vacations are allowed (and at the discretion of the store manager), which make it nearly impossible to get vacation time when you'd actually like to take it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more active in monitoring the store managers' control over the assistant managers and department managers work-life balance (or lack thereof).

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I am grateful for the flexible work schedule and the benefits that really helped me while I was dealing with personal life situations outside of work. The employee discounts are a nice perk as well. Compensation was decent

    Cons

The company should offer more leadership training for the store managers so they are better equipped to lead their stores. There are also no professional development opportunities or a clear career path so the store is a revolving door.

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

If you put in the hard work, you will be rewarded for it. People are extremely friendly and fun to work with.

    Cons

Hours can be tough and management might not be direct with what they are asking. It's important to make sure you are meeting expectations for what they are looking for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your workers are people, not the means to your bottom line..

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Job duties not challenging, flexible schedule, and 20% employee discount. Great variety of merchandise and typically a laid back working environment. Fellow co-workers are usually helpful.

    Cons

Management decisions not cohesive among managers, never complete employee training or follow up with new hires, senior level management and corporate management could care less about their employees needs. District and corporate managers come off very phony, not one bit genuine. NO incentives whatsoever for meeting sales/promotion goals. You will end up feeling undervalued and overworked after some time (it is retail after all).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear/concise communication is KEY to executing successful management strategy. Collectively agree upon the same policies/procedures and share the SAME information among employees and fellow co-workers. Doing so will avoid confrontation, misunderstandings, and initiate a more evident open-door policy. Value and recognize employees for their accomplishments, big or small. You will experience less employee turnover and enhance company culture.

I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for less than a year

    Pros

They are almost always begging for employees to stay due to low staff.

    Cons

This job was too time consuming. The pay was good but what fun is having money if your at work all the time?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough people that way you dont have to beg people to stay an extra four hours.

    Pros

Great pay. The salaries are the main reason why an employee will stay with the company

    Cons

Lack of team work and no support. This company is not a development organization. The processes are in place, but not execution due to time must be spend with tasks and customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop the associates and associates will take care of the customer with better service.

I have been working at Bed Bath & Beyond part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly associates and you meet all different types of customers. Your customer service skills improve as well.

    Cons

Well for me being a part time associate, I've been doing everything! Maintenance in the bathrooms, working on the floor (hardside), and working at customer service, I believe I should be getting paid a lot more for my duties. I close almost every night and by the end of the night, I'm sweating like crazy. Especially when we're understaffed all the time, it gets out of hand and I'd end up staying way past the time I was scheduled. Oh and the raises they give you are pretty insulting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you're hiring someone and you're going to be assigning them to multiple duties, at least pay them good enough for all their hard work!
