Belden is full of Back-Stabbing Morons

Network Administrator (Former Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsIf you are young and stupid, you may have a future there.

ConsAll Belden managers are monsters and should be fired. If you work for a company that Belden buys, they eventually will get rid of you if you complain about the inept management and projects. Lean Management is also a joke. I don't know why Belden is so successful. The customers hate them and also current and former employee hate them. They are the worst company on earth to work for. Only the back-stabbers get rewarded.

    Belden Rewards Mediocrity

Manufacturing Engineer (Current Employee) Richmond, IN

ProsMy salary is the only good thing about working at Belden.

Cons- Belden has developed a system where they reward mediocrity.
    - Management at nearly every level seems to be unable to identify areas in their sphere of
       responsibility that require improvement.

Advice to Senior ManagementWe need all new managers. The facility I work at has been in turmoil for 3-4 years.

    Too many management layers

Poor Work Life Balance (Current Employee) Richmond, IN

ProsGood benefits, 401K contribution from Belden.

ConsToo much management layers. Micro managing, "top down" communication style. Poor work life balance. Management does not care or show empathy towards employees. They manage too much with metrics rather than common sense.

Dedication to the company is not reconized by upper management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Leominster, MA

ProsIf one is interested in Lean Manufacturing then Belden is the place to work. They will train you and work with you so you understand and can impliment Lean at your facility.

ConsDon't plan on retiring from Belden. Your life span at Belden is about 5 years. With there Force Ranking, at least one in your group will be cut every year and replaced with someone at a lower salary then the one who was cut.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop moving jobs out of the US and bring them back. The knowledge and the dedication needed to continuously improve Belden is here in the US not Mexico or China.

When Belden comes in and speaks to you about being part of their "family", I say, RUN LIKE EVERYTHING!!

Maintenance (Former Employee) Apple Creek, OH

ProsGet a check while you look for another job that will be there when Belden doesn't want you anymore and closes down your plant.

Consafter giving us all a big speech about what a "family" company they were and how long people had worked at their company, they emptied our plant within 2 years; sending the equipment out and everyone who had worked at that plant for years onto the streets. We were a competent and competitive plant; they only bought us as an acquisition. They immediately sold off our corporate plant in Illinois, then our plant in Ohio within 2 years. We had to go to Mexico and train the people who were taking our jobs!! because WE were the qualified personnel. How does that stack up to "family"???

Advice to Senior ManagementPut yourself in our shoes, even though you think we are just little, worthless pieces on your chessboard.

From a Factory Techinican Perspective :"Narrow-minded and does not respect their employees or their ideas or thoughts"

Factory Labourer (Former Employee) Cobourg, ON (Canada)

ProsThe pros of working at belden was the hourly wage and fellow employees

Consthe cons were that management did not respect or care about employees, it was clearly just a numbers game, employees concerns, thoughts and rights were not taken into consideration

Advice to Senior Managementi think you need to evaluate your staff at the canadian location of belden and realize that those in charge are seriously declining the work atmosphere and true production. Seriously if you went and asked the factory workers what the issue was there….they would say that the management under valued your staff and disregarded any and all ideas they have

No respect for people, destroy shareholder value, fake lean, window dressing performance, mercenary culture

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsTalk good is okay, no need to do hard work

Consgood people leaving constantly, low performers increase as %, vicious cycle, politics everywhere, 300M acquisition money wasted in just one deal.

Avoid Belden , if you can.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) New Delhi (India)

    ProsPays well. Lot of freedom.

ConsVery poor customer service. Constantly in chaos. It systems are of 70's. Constantly cutting workforce. No concept of cost management.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompany just can't be run by short term numbers. Need to understand what needs to be done to get the numbers. Using lean does not makes efficient. First get good processes.

Good products lost upper managers and not willing to understand business

    Ex Sales (Former Employee)

ProsOlder employees are very good and most regional manager. Good products lots of spec position but losing that fast

ConsOnly two upper level are past old school Belden people. All the rest are from non cable industry and not know the business and seem to be wrapped up in being yes men to their upper managers.
Everyone I know would rather be working for someone else or can't leave because they are to deeply invested. They hire non cable industry people and lose good people to other cable companies

    Pathetic

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe legacy belden folks have their head on their shoulders. Other than that, compensation is fair, and benefits are pretty standard.

ConsUntrustworty management and leadership. Empathy and candor is severely lacking. Run away if ever approached by this company ! It is difficult to find ONE happy and satisfied employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a moment and talk to the employees. Not just hear and trust the lies that fall on your ears by middle management. Leaders are supposed to Listen as well.
