I worked at Billabong (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Laid- back company , there was room to grow but only if your a favorite of the store manager.

    Cons

Management and company working in a new direction, nobody really listen to your concerns and problems. All they care about is themselves with sales goal and aren't personable with staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try giving people decent raise and listening to your employees.

I worked at Billabong full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It used to be a great environment to work at. It used to be very laid back.

    Cons

It is a low paid job and over workload. Management is poorly handling any situations. They hired too many executives which make it top heavy and not enough mid and entry level to actually work. They have been losing the core of the brand. The executives only care of the number and how much profits they can earn.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to care of the mid and entry level of people. Before you can get profit, you need to bring back the core of this brand and what the customers want. Then you will get your profit back after win your employees back. Without the core and the soul of this brand, the company doesn't mean anything for the customers.

I worked at Billabong full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Working in the action sports industry. Many of the employees besides management are great to work with. Casual attire and employee discounts are excellent.

    Cons

Worst company I've ever worked for. The upper management was responsible for the collapse of both the retail and wholesale divisions. There has been many amazing employees, artists, athletes, and ideas who/which have been overlooked and thus most of the divisions have suffered. If you speak up you put your job in jeopardy. Communication throughout the company is terrible. Too many hats with too many egos. The current retail management and team is similar driving the business lower and the wholesale division has lost or is losing many talented people. The upper management continues to sort things out while all quality middle and lower level employees were laid off and replaced by low paid, low experienced employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much can be said since most of the leaders in each division are the ones that have made the mistakes and should have been taken the blame and been replaced. You need to hire and retain quality not let them all go. Listen to your employees and really see what's going on with each division. No one feels secure in their job and will not until changes are made.

I worked at Billabong full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Health, 401, and other benefits are very good. Working in the action sports industry is enjoyable (though not here), and you are able to wear great clothing.

    Cons

The company has far too many egos and they get in the way of prospering. Upper management is arrogant and does not truly understand how to fix the mistakes they've made. They have lost a bunch of very strong people, either laid off or quit, when the upper management needs to be changed so the company can use it's employee's creative talents to succeed. As long as the top management is there the company will not grow. There have been very few and if so, small raises for the past 4 years. You can get promoted but not get a raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Worry about creating a better work environment where your employees can create fresh and compelling new products instead of limiting their abilities. Don't let go of talent for the sake of lower inexperienced employees. Talent drives the business forward, inexperience repeats the same mistakes that are being made.

Surf company trending toward becoming wal-mart model of effenciency and profits,at expence of employees at lower levels.

I have been working at Billabong

    Pros

set schedule, enough work, nice area to live in,

    Cons

low pay, filthy working conditions, lack of facilities on site(enough bathrooms, break areas, lockers),forced overtime(white slavery),demanding physical work, lack of security(located in prison property with no exterior lighting)no chance for advancement or learning new skills.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

step up and pay employees a living wage, you may have to skip on doubling up on your porsche payment once a year.but it will be worth it in terms of morale ,productivity and pride.turnover will cease to be a cruel joke on trainers.overall quality of workers interested in the jobs will rise.
we're not asking for the moon, just a reasonable wage that allows a person to support a household.
as it stands 70% of the workforce makes minimum wage or a dollar over, and the people who got you this far don't make much more.highest known paid non-management personell is only paid 13.usd/hour. many people doing the exact same work are paid far less and as a result have suffered adverse health effects, undue stress due to financial situation, and many are on public assistance.most work a second job even after working a forced 50 hours a week at your slavepit.
Stop being a company that only cares about profits at the expence of it's most vulnerable assets and do something,
even pay for jobs would be a start, minimums for permanent employees ahould start at 11USD/hr and scale up to about 15usd/hour,that doesn't sound greedy or malicious on our part does it? if it does, then maybe other actions should be the avenue to success.
