    Great Environment, Terrible Pay

    Pros

Who doesn't want to work for a place where you come to work dressed in flip flops and shorts? Just like surfing, this company has a laid back culture with lots of high fives and friendly co-workers.

    Cons

Leadership has changed so many times in the past 5 years. The company lacks communication from the upper management to the retail stores. Procedures change without notifying the stores and thus creates confusion. The leadership can be great when they are visible in the stores. They also like to stick together and form cliques rather than welcome in new co-workers. The career growth is rough along with the pay. They say the reward the hard work but often they will pay people less compared to others in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more organized and consistent. If something is done one way, train everyone to be aware of this.

    Pros

Interacted with locals and tourists from all over the world. Enjoyed the store music and employee discount.

    Cons

Very young employees, often felt like high school. 8 hours on your feet with a 15 minute lunch break in the middle of Times Square.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate politics and cliques. Hire more professional employees, a mix of ages and backgrounds. Give longer breaks.

    Pros

discounts were decent especially on clearance.

    Cons

since I was the youngest employee at the time all the older employees made me do things they didn't want to do like moping sweeping dusting and other various things. They always gave me my break last and my manager was really rude to my family when they would come by the store to browse.

    Pros

got along with all my former co workers, every was always well organized Experience and skills to put on your resume. A way to pay bills with the flexibility to manage personal or family responsibilities.

    Cons

not enough hours and money.THE WORK CAN BE HARD AND PHYSICAL
During busy seasons, you’ll inevitably experience more customers, more merchandise, more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Temp jobs offer opportunities for you to build on your network, attend training events, conduct informational interviews and even, when appropriate, enhance your social life with all the new coworkers you meet. Approach your temp experience as an opportunity to shine. Many regular employees see temps as people who don’t really care or who may even make their jobs harder. Show that you are willing to go above and beyond to get the job done. Offer to assist with projects to demonstrate your skills. This will help if you are later being considered for a permanent position.

    Former Employee - Cashier
    Former Employee - Cashier

    Pros

The dress code is pretty laid back and people generally do not take themselves to seriously. You can be yourself and don't have to put on a front for customers.

    Cons

If you are not into weird alternative rock/pop music then you will not enjoy it blasting loudly into your ears all day everyday. The people who work there are usually really friendly, but the management team is a disaster always.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Being that you work in a skate/surf shop I am sure it is easy to feel like a child again, but you are adults. Please remember that.
