    Diversify Management

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Research Triangle Park, NC

ProsBenefits, pay (competitive), work life balance (improving with some departments offering greater flexibility than others)

ConsLack of diversity in management (mid-level & senior). Promotions are far between ((avg 3-5 years) and based more on time served vs consistent high performance and demonstrated performance at the next level.

Advice to Senior ManagementDiversify management by tapping into key internal high performing talent that have demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    (Generally) Positive Internship Experience

    Summer Intern (Former Employee)
    Cambridge, MA

Pros-Great flexibility with project selection/progression and involvement with different scientists.
-My co-mentors were always supportive, helpful and wanted me to learn new techniques and experiments
-Since Cambridge is the company's main R&D site, there were lots of fellow interns (~30) and therefore many intern-specific events and fun activities

Cons-A major R&D reorganization that resulted in firing of 1/3 of a department. Projects and people were getting shifted around a lot after that.

    Contractor at Biogen Idec

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBeing a contractor at my previous company was not a good experience. However, compared to my last contract assignment, being a contractor at Biogen Idec as been a great experience. The group that I'm assigned to has really been great to work with. My manager has been flexible with my work hours. And it does seem like Biogen Idec takes care of it's permanent employees.

ConsI have heard other employees mumble about seniority does not matter here, especially if you're a little outspoken.

Dynamic work environment with constant challenges and very good benefits

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Cambridge, MA

ProsVery good product pipeline with good vision of where the company is headed. Benefits are excellent. Company does a good job of soliciting and acting on employee feed back.

ConsStrategy for augmenting pipeline seems to be moving in the direction of acquisition and collaboration instead of internally developed. Not a bad strategy but keeps employees in the dark about future pipeline and what role current employees will play in the development cycle
