I worked at Biomet part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Working is the medical field is interesting! The field assistant or intern position is great for someone who can work flexible hours for low pay. The benefits are great, especially free health insurance- yes you heard me right! The office staff was great to work with and learn from.

    Cons

Sometimes the office gets very busy and you are asked to come in very early or stay late. The pay is less than what you might expect given the nature of the work and the expensive equipment you are handling. Flexible hours can sometimes turn into required hours when the office gets too busy. They have no budget for maintenance to the company delivery van, which is used daily, and carries expensive medical equipment. Although your boss is the sales manager, he is rarely in the office or available.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Albuquerque branch manager previously worked as a sport's coach in high school with a degree in education. This company is willing to hire from anywhere for their sales staff, but this also means the branch had very poor management due to a lack of experience and training. Most of the office staff was reasonable, but when disagreements occurred there was no manager to step in and resolve them.
As an intern, there was no defined course to pursue further employment with the company or a full time position. To a big degree, getting hired in medical device sales is who you know or who you can meet and impress.

I worked at Biomet as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Able to work on a multitude of design and development projects. My manager checked in weekly to ensure I was comfortable and helped guide me to projects i was interested in.

Awesome Co-op program -- great if you are looking to develop skills as an engineer

    Cons

    location location location
As much as i loved Biomet and the people... i don't think i would be able to live in Warsaw, IN without going crazy

I have been working at Biomet full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Team oriented atmosphere, relaxed and collaborative environment. Challenging and very fast-paced.

    Cons

Since merger announcement, information is more closely guarded and atmosphere is already changing. Unfocused decision making and unrealistic expectations of what can be accomplished in a short time period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop acting like nothing will change and be more realistic in you expectations. Your employees are not as naive as you seem to think!

Heavily focused on engineering and design. Great co-op program.

I have been working at Biomet as an intern

    Pros

Very hands-on work experience and close connection with the clients. Fantastic work atmosphere with very approachable and sensible people in leadership roles.

    Cons

The major downside is location, particularly in the winter season. The only real activity is attending the local YMCA. The company was recently acquired which may alter the company atmosphere; however, it may also bring together some major talent that will better the field of orthopedics.

I have been working at Biomet full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Strong history of ground breaking and encouraging innovation in their workforce. Friendly employees and management. Remaining connection with founders values and ideals. Relaxed environment and interactions. Enjoyable daily routing

    Cons

Lack of corporate structure or roadmap can be frustrating. Occasionally unsure of where you stand (e.g., are you meeting/exceeding expectations). Very tight self-regulation, often feel as if every 2 steps forwards results in taking 1 step backwards. Location, rural indiana is not a sought after location.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a happy median between relaxed structure and set guidelines for team members to track progress.

I worked at Biomet full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They are a great company to work for. The distributors in Utah are a good couple of guys. They are knowledgeable and fun.

    Cons

It's a challenge to break into the big money. Some people that become established with a lot of surgeons make great money, but those who don't, barely get by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have never seen it yet but it would be more fair to give at least a small commission to sales reps that cover cases for other reps.

I have been working at Biomet as a contractor

    Pros

The work atmosphere and culture are top notch. People from all places on the corporate ladder are willing to help

    Cons

The location is far from ideal. Warsaw is a small town, with little going for it in terms of entertainment or general interest. In addition, it is far enough from larger cities (Fort Wayne, Indy) that making trips to them requires forethought and planning

    Pros

For me it was the like-minded community I was able to associate with.

    Cons

Campus is large which can make you feel small. Re-orgs are confusing to everyone. They were just beginning to roll out Team Center file management whatever, I foresee problems with it.
