I worked at Blockbuster full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Free Movie Rentals
    Semi-flexible work hours

    Cons

No personal growth and upward movement within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Blockbuster at the beginning of the Bankruptcy. Upper management was putting all the pressure for store performance. They wanted "clerks" to become sales associates and throwing everything at us at a moments notice to see if something new stuck. When my district manager got a new job, I knew it was time to start looking.

I have been working at Blockbuster part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free rentals, great atmosphere and nice co-workers. All in all I enjoyed my time working there. Sadly it's hard to find a location that is still open. If you do find one near you don't hesitate to apply.

    Cons

Low pay with little room for advancement. With multiple store closing and the likelihood that all stores will be closing soon, don't expect to stay with the company for an extended period of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To Blockbuster and all the captains of corporate America. Nobody believes you when you try to sound like visionaries. When you announce a major acquisition, do not try to sound like geniuses. Stick to brass tacks, like cost savings and footprint redundancies. Do not talk about some new retail paradigm mumbo jumbo. No one going to believe it. Even Steve Jobs (AAPL) did not do that. He rolled out the product and let everyone else talk about paradigms.
