    Pros

The best part of Bloomberg is the free breakfast and lunch -- it tastes good too. Also, the physical office is very modern and well maintained.

    Cons

A culture that stifles innovation. If you question why something is done a particular way, the likely response would be "well that is the way it has always been done" or "that's what I was told to do." If you have a better idea to complete a process, there is no encouragement and you will be told that it is a waste of time. I was once told that when doing tasks or resolving issues -- "we [Bloomberg] do everything ad hoc." Be prepared to learn how to click buttons, without any understanding of why the button is pressed. And don't expect to learn any transferable skills, because you won't. Not a place for people who are creative thinkers, problem solvers, or innovators.

    Advice to Management

Treat temp workers as individuals instead of disposable objects. Yes they are only temp, but after investing weeks to train them, it would make sense to try and keep them around. In the first 2 months I've worked there, my desk was changed 4 times, including being put at a desk in a dark corner with terrible lighting & no one around (I am not exaggerating the lighting situation -- if I didn't have a desk lamp, the only light would be from the computer screens). I have also been moved to the opposite side of the building, at a table meant for one person but instead configured to squeeze two temps together (the left armrest of one chair was touching/on top of the right armrest of the other chair -- hope you don't mind your personal space being violated.

    Pros

Got to work with the terminal and free food.

    Cons

Bad team management and very high turnover rate. Very misleading job. Mostly data entry with a little customer service. no actual financial analysis. Most people move to different departments and never move up.

    Advice to Management

Change the job description to data entry. This job is nothing more than that. If you get a job here, plan on getting out within a year.

    Pros

Free food. Get to work with the terminal. Employees are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Position was supposed to be as financial analyst. Turned out to be nothing more than data mining and copying pasting on excel spread sheets.

    Advice to Management

Don't mislead people into thinking they're working as financial analysts. Give employees more opportunities to show their skills.

    Pros

Job security, learn some new things everyday if active, looks good on resume, free pantry, some nice and some very clever people.

Majority of the jobs are, as somebody said, "middle class sweat shop" -type. They don't want any innovative thinking or world class abilities, and the jobs are pretty boring as is. Instead, you are supposed to keep your mouth shut, and run the outdated day-to-day process for less money than industry median managed by relatively incompetent management. Awesome option for people who search for a safe 9-5 day care, as B does not normally lay people off.

    Cons

Poor salary, skills not transferable, many team leads are either inexperienced and/or not very bright, weak communication skills, normal 60-hour weeks are not justified due to low salary.

The data jobs rely on non-transparent performance metrics and subjective manager evaluation, although transparency is one of the core values at B. Same applies to career prospects - there is no long term alignment of interest so that you would know that dedication and hard work will be compensated. Rather, you are offered horizontal repositioning to another same level job. Further, B is not a meritocracy - tenure over skills and abilities - which means that opportunity cost regarding staying at B for long term is far too high.

In the beg. I did not mind about terminal being outdated. After a while though, it is frustrating that workflows are unnecessarily complex, buggy, user unfriendly, and 70% of your time you are working with menial tasks caused by these weak workflows. It helps if you are a 90's MS-DOS freak, as that is how the workflows still look like.

Majority of the managers and team leads have mediocre skills/abilities or are outright dumb. Many employees have spent far too long at B, have lost touch with the changed labor market and/or industry, and are unable to recognize needed improvements even if served on a golden plate. Most employees have built their professional identity on the B's workflows, and unable to recognize or understand skills that new hires are bringing in from outside. They also have a major chip on the shoulder in case a new hire knows more, and you will be shot down really fast by telling how you don't know this and that workflow yet, as you have just started.

    Advice to Management

    - Been working at B for a less than a year and I am resentful already. Why?
    - Entire corporate culture is outdated. The world does not work top down anymore.

    Pros

Free breakfast, lunch and dinner are a huge plus and save you the extra expense. Relaxing, social environment, where the floor plan is open so you don't feel closed off and alone the whole day.

    Cons

experience as a temp does not transfer outside, really hard to relate anything they have you do to requirements for getting a position outside. Seems like bloomberg is a dead end career, works off horizontal movement rather than vertical movement within the company. People just go department to department.

    Pros

Great benefits. Free food. Decent pay. Special events. Most of the people are nice. That pretty much sums up most of what's good.

    Cons

Extremely limited advancement opportunities. Unrealistic goals and expectations. Blatant favoritism. No regard for work-life balance, you're often expected to come in early, work late and and place company needs before your personal needs.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be more impartial and stop micro-managing.

    Pros

Good work life balance, good benefits.

    Cons

Promotions are based on favortism and not based on who has the most product knowledge and is suited to grow the product and lead a team. They pay new hires more than employees who have been there for 3-5 years. Do not reward hard work in terms of compensation. Outsources many jobs overseas.

    Advice to Management

Work closer with employees who actually work daily with the product and know what clients are looking for.
